are my observations. Met Garcia-Mendoza, Nick Cicic and Muntrelle Thornton. All really neat young men. Didn't get a chance to meet Ricky Davison or Marlon Louzeiro, but did get to see them play.
You're going to love Alex Mendoza. Terrific player. If I'm coaching, from what I saw, he's our 3 guard. Quick with the ball, can penetrate, and has a wicked left handed jump shot. Reminds me of the Western guard that was so good last year. He had a hyphenated name also.
Bozeman looks great. And is he solid. He has a chest like a weight lifter.
III looks like a leader. Ran the floor from the point most of the scrimmage. Bozeman and Lionel were on the opposing team.
And wait until you see Bails. He's lost fifteen pounds and looks great. He told me he had the screws taken out of his knee, and can move now without pain. He even said that his weight hindered him last year and aggravated the knee. But he feels great now. Mike Smith was the outstanding big man today, and he looks to be in the best shape of his career. He was hitting fifteen foot jump shots regularly. Cicic and Davison did very little. I didn't see either one shoot the ball, and they'll have to pick it up to play for Steve. There is no way Davison is 6'4". He's 6'2" at the most. Even Thornton told me there's no way Ricky is 6'4". And he's listed at 6'7", and he laughed and told me he's probably actually about 6'5".
Louziero is a big fellow, but I couldn't really get a good take on our big men today, other than Mike. I did see Burton make a nice jumper from the side. Right now, if I had to pick a starting lineup from the players there today keeping in mind it's very early, it would be Bozeman, III, Garcia-Mendoza, Smith, and either Bails or Burton. Mike is in such good shape, he could play the four. Courtney Jackson can't practice and is having surgery on his knee next wednesday, and won't be able to practice this semester, but he's going to stay here and work out between sessions, and says he'll be ready to go when fall practices begin. That's my impression of this first look. I'm sure others will impress as they feel more comfortable. Pappy, I hope this holds you for a few days. P.S. LR Trojan. There was a young man there, and I assumed he might be a walk on, but he's a tenth grader from Sylvan Hills named Archie Goodwin. He played some in the game and looked pretty darn good. He's probably in the 6'2" range. Might be a prospect in a couple of seasons.
