One of our big projects during this long, hot and boring Texas summer is to preview and rank all 120 Division 1-A football teams. Toledo was one of the 3 teams featured in our most recent entry at S&H... so I thought I'd share with yall:

I don't follow football like some of these guys but your synopsis seems pretty close to what most are saying- Opelt will actually be going into his fourth year as starter-he took over about midway through his Frosh year. Unfortunately injuries have taken a real toll so he has the equivalent of about 2 1/2 years as a starter, I suppose.
pretty accurate for a couple of Texans
collins and williams are big time backs, great numbers when healthy and both major recruits
the oline is experienced but not as big and talented as UT lines from our run of good yrs under Pinkel and early Amstutz
offense looked interesting but not too efficient in spring game
def line will be the key, terrible in recent yrs, has some decent young talent and a couple potential impact recruits, coaches need to get job done there
special teams, primarily coverage teams, killed UT in recent yrs. new coaches have put much more emphasis there
lester richmond is a team leader but not an all-mac talent, frosh jermaine robinson might end up the story at the safety position

Appreciate the feedback guys.
One of the things I wish I had was access to film of the previous season so I could get a clearer picture of the individual players and the team. But we have the resources we have and it's obviously enough to put together a solid preview.

Sorry, but all evidence of Toledo's last two season's [sans UM] has been sealed in a concrete tomb at the bottom of the Maumee River.

Sorry, but all evidence of Toledo's last two season's [sans UM] has been sealed in a concrete tomb at the bottom of the Maumee River.
Not all was bad, UT's Offense was good in 2007(#1 MAC in Rushing,#5 MAC Passing,#1 MAC Total Offense,#2 MAC Scoring).All but disappeared in 2008(#6 MAC Rushing,#11 MAC Passing,#11 MAC Total Offense, and #12 MAC Scoring).Now with Campbell and Satterfield, the Rocket Offense should flourish again.Lots of changes along the Rocket OL and DL.With the personnel,position, and coaching changes, last years film doesn't mean as much.
