So today I go to this place in Little Rock known for it's burgers, and get a turkey burger that rivals the burger joint of all burger joints IMO....Red Robin.

Then, I get home and my Wife tells me "guess what we're having for dinner honey!?....TURKEY BURGERS!". She is excited because she thought of a way to cook them where they would turn out like her Mom's turkey meatballs, and this is probably the first time we have tried to cook them in years. Today of all days, I had to have a turkey burger for lunch right? Pure coincidence.

So....anyway....She cooks them in a skillet with a lid on and steams them in beef broth. I, after having seen Missj's 'shrooms, was jonesin' for some, so I sauteed a bunch with Huey's seasoning to top the burger.

Final: turkey burger that blew away the one I had for lunch. Flavorful and moist and terrific consistency (ground turkey tends to fall apart if not cooked just right), topped with 'shrooms, provolone, fresh tomato, and mayo. Whataburger!
Sounds really good! I wonder if I could trick the kids into eating one05-stirthepot

Our picky eatin' kids (9, 11 and 14) each ate one, and when told they were having one for lunch tomorrow as well....they were thrilled! THEY SCARFED EM' DOWN. If yours are younger, just don't tell em'. The key is the broth, use either beef or chicken, about half a can per skillet with three patties in, and let them cook in that until done.
Thanks Ill have to try. I have only cooked ground turkey in Hamburger Helper once cause my husband said he didnt like it. Ill cook these and see what he thinks. I am not going to tell him its turkey.....Ill have to trick him like the kids!
For me, the words turkey and burger don't belong in the same sentence.

How about high cholesterol and coronary artery disease? Do those go together for ya'?

Jenn, the color will be different than a regular burger, so your husband will probably spot the difference. We use ground turkey/turkey sausage in many different things.

My kids have no idea that they are eating turkey bacon.....it's just "bacon" to them.
Turkey is the greatest food of all time. I try to do the morning star stuff, and it isn't bad, but I just have an addiction to the turkey.

There is no difference in turkey bacon and sausage compared to pork in my opinion. Less fat, but nothing really different.

Turkey medallions and turkey burgers are some of the best tasting things on the planet. I put some fat free cheese, onion, etc. in the middle of my patty before I grill it. I love it. Could eat one everyday if I had to.

I've always been skeptical about getting one at a restaurant due to a bad experience once. You recommend the one at Red Robin Chi?

I can't speak for the ones in Memphis, we had a Red Robin near our house in Chicago, and I had never had a better turkey burger than theirs until last night. The best part about theirs is you can substitute turkey for any of their "signature" burgers.

You're right, once you start looking, it is amazing how many things are out there that are turkey and are just as tasty as the original pork/beef.

This is the part I don't understand. They say rattlesnake "tastes just like chicken". Well excuse me, then I think I'll just have chicken.

Why accept substitutes?

Because it has no fat and equal protein. It's a beautiful thing.
It still has hormones, pesticides, and bacteria.

My children got used to Morningstar veggie patties, link "sausages", and "sausage" patties. I took some veggie burgers to a cookout and put them on the grill. Everyone wanted MY veggie burgers because they tasted better than the hamburgers!

And the Morningstar chicken tenders are BETTER than real chicken.

I'm doing Morningstar probably 50% of the time now. It took getting used to, but I agree that it's good. It's just a mental thing for me.
My wife gets ground turkey all the time when we make burgers. Can't tell a difference.

She also makes great sausage balls using turkey sausage. There's so much less grease.
Got my new bon appetit magazine in the mail. On the cover is a beautiful Turkey Burger.
