I had the honor of meeting Coaches Beckman and Ward tonight in Findlay. They each talked for about 15 minutes and addressed all questions from those in attendance. My favorite points:
1. Beckman should be ready to have some good game plans. Last year, as a D-Coordinator, he had to scheme for Chase Daniels, Colt McCoy, Sam Bradford, and Graham Harrel. That would have to be a nightmare for any coach!
2. Team GPA went from 2.45 to 2.9 in one semester. Also, the team went from 45 Fs to 5 Fs in one semester. He requires all athletes to attend every class AND to sit in the first two rows. His goal is to have the team GPA at 3.0 or higher. He mentioned how the national Champion Florida Gators had the 2nd highest graduation rate of D-I schools in the country.
3. He discussed how he was thoroughly disgusted with the Rocket Special Teams on film. He has taken a personal role getting that improved.
4. Both coaches were very sociable and approachable. They made it a point to shake everyone's hand and have a conversation with them.
5. "Blue Out" for the Colorado game...spread the word.
6. 12pm kickoff for Purdue and Ball State. The Ball State game will be on an ESPN network.
7. I'm getting excited for some Football! How many more days??
