There is a rumor out there that he says he is going to be committing to UC. I guess if there is any truth to this then it means he received an offer.

I will say this, he was easily the best QB I saw last year in Southwest Ohio...that includes Mark Miller, Andrew Hendrix, Luke Massa, Braxton Miller, Spencer Ware, Dominique Brown and so on.

He is a legit 6'2, he is very athletic, has great accuracy and most importantly he has the best poise in the pocket I've seen in quite a while from a QB in this area. I saw him against both Elder and Colerain last year and he was under pressure all game long and constantly got out of the pressure and made some incredible throws on the run. He also can throw the football downfield.

Did anyone else see him last year? I dont understand why this kid doesn't have 20+ offers at this point.
After watching some film of him he would fit into UCs offense very well.
Marcus - How does he look running the football? Scout says he runs a 4.86 and Rivals says a 4.53. I think BK's offense has not come close to its peak because we have yet to have a dual-threat QB here at UC under BK. And that is scary because I think the sky is the limit in BK's spread with a QB that can run as well as he can pass.

He runs better than any of the "drop back" QB's I mentioned. He runs way better than Miller and Massa. Hendrix and him are probably similar athletes but from what I saw I thought Watkins ran better. 4.86 if it is electronically timed is actually pretty good for a QB...especially someone who is a great passer. I would imagine Hendrix runs in that area as well.
He is quick. The one game I saw him play the kid looked to have pretty good speed. QB or not.
Thanks for the quick response. Ya, I consider anything under 5.0 in the 40 pretty solid for a QB.

A guy over an Yappi says Caleb himself told him he was committing to UC. The guys over there also like his running ability. Safe to say I am excitedly anticipating this news.

I dont believe UC has offered yet and he is planning to camp with UC.

My favorite of the bunch is Hendrix, though I dont think UC will get him. I saw Watkins in the Herbie and against Middletown in the Butler County Backyard Brawl. I think he is a good QB but not my favorite, right now he wouldnt be my 2nd choice for local QBs.

He's started since his sophomore year, great attitude and lots to like.
I saw Watkins twice last year and Hendrix about 4 times. I have never been impressed with Hendrix. He played pretty well in the Colerain game but I was very unimpressed with him against Elder, St X and the team they played in the Crosstown Showdown. Another thing I dont like about Hendrix (and it is not really his fault) is the fact that he rarely throws the ball further than 10 yards in Rodenberg's offense. No way of telling if he can be an accurate downfield passer.

Watkins throws the ball down the field very well. He made some unbelievable throws the sideline when I saw him and high school QB's just don't make. He's definitely my #1 choice as a QB locally.
I respect your opinion. I could be wrong.

I think Hendrix is the reason Moeller beat St X last year. Rodenberg's offense does call for quick throws (which in my opinion is St. X's achilles heal). But it was obvious throughout that game that he made progressions to his 2nd and 3rd receivers quickly and several times tucked the ball and ran.

His statistics against St X last year (Moeller won 17 - 14):

Passing: 21 completions, 31 attempts 154 yards, 2 TDs 0 Int

Rushing: 12 rushes 54 yards 4.5 yard average
Marcus. I thought I was the only one who was not overly impressed with Hendrix. Just doesn't blow me away as a BCS QB. IMO, if he played for Anderson, he'd be getting strictly MAC offers.

I have heard quite a few people who aren't real impressed with his ability as a QB.
Good to know I'm not alone.

You know what local GCL QB recruit Hendrix really reminds me of? Craig Carey.

Craig Carey is a good comparison, so is Rob Schoenhoft. I do think Hendrix is probably a little bit better than Schoenhoft (he was God awful in high school). Carey did have some success at QB at Elder as a senior and I see Hendrix probably having a similar season to what Craig had. I just dont see where in the world all this hype is coming from with him.

From what I saw of Watkins...I liked everything he did better. Better poise, better accuracy, great footwork, and just a real confidence everytime he was either in the pocket or outside the pocket. He never stops looking for a receiver when he's out of the pocket, Hendrix tends to tuck it and run if he gets out of the pocket.

Who knows. Obviously these schools see something they like in Hendrix but they all did in Schoenhoft too. I hope it just isn't based off his film because if it is then you aren't seeing his game in and game out, play in and play out performance. I'm not exactly sure of his stats last year as a junior but I'm pretty sure it was something mediocre like 11 TD passes and 7 Int's. That about sums up his play last year when I saw him as well. Average to decent high school QB.

He might not be the best QB in Cincinnati like I think but he is BCS caliber.

Check out some video: Scouting Ohio Andrew Hendrix

The video displays passes longer than 5 yards, touch and athletic ability.

I am not a Moeller shill by any means, and saw every home game St X played vs. Colerain, Prattville (Top 10 in the US), Indy Cathedral, Don Bosco prep (Top 10 US), St Ignatius, Moeller. He was the best QB they faced.

I can see a few BCS level programs misjudging a player but not this many.

Edit: FWIW go back and look at what I posted about Shoenhoft I did not feel he was a BCS level QB. Hendrix isnt even close as far as a comparison. That one is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay off base.
He has just never passed my eyeball test. When I watch Big Moe play, if I didn't know he was being recruited by everyone, I wouldn't pay that much attention to the kid. He never seems to be the "it" player on the field when I've seen him. Over a whole game he just seems like another good player but nothing spectacular.
This is ESPN's recruiting evaluation of Caleb Watkins...perhaps there is a reason why other schools might not be recruiting him as highly after all.

Watkins is an athletic passer with very good size and a strong build. He shows good height, a strong arm and good overall velocity on the football on all throws. He is a shotgun, spread passer in a scheme that highlights the short passing game with the occasional shots downfield. He is a deceptively good athlete when forced to move around. In fact he could probably be utilized more in the zone-read scheme as a runner. Shows good speed for the position and very nice feet to move around and buy time. He has a quick release and when his feet are set the ball comes out with pop. He shows good zip on underneath throws and can fit the ball into tight spots. Shows he can lead receivers and consistently hit the strike zone. He throws very well on the move to both sides and has enough arm strength to make intermediate level throws on the run when rolling out. He is not asked to take drops from center, read on the move and work through many progressions in this offense. He dinks and dunks more than anything else. While we like Watkins' measurables and competitiveness, he is a guy that has awkward release mechanics. He can get rid of the ball quickly, but he carries the ball very high, propped up by the ear and really "cups" the ball with his wrist prior to delivery. If you can get past the method, the result is generally productive, but he is unorthodox. We would like to see him set his feet consistently. He seems to be in a rush and hurry the ball when he does not need to and his feet when in the pocket do not allow him to always generate power from his feet to his arm with weight transfer and balance. Overall, Watkins has some natural talent to throw the ball. He possesses size and he has proven to be very productive in this offense. We are not in love with how he releases the football, but he does have upside for the next level.

Which games did you see?

I would agrre with that assessment, in addition he rushed 103 times last year and fumbled 14 times. He shows moments of brilliance then takes off and doesnt protect the ball.

Even in Caleb Watkins own video on scouting Ohio (HERE), he shows himself rushing (not when he is scrambling) and holding the ball out several times.

I want to be very clear I am not saying he isn't BCS level talent, just IMO he isnt the best in the Cincinnati area.
X and LaSalle

So when he brought Moeller back from a 14 - 7 defecit in the 4th qtr to include a game winning field goal in under 2 minutes vs. X you were not impressed..? He was definitely the man that day.

I did not see the LaSalle game so cannot comment on that although he was 13 of 26 for 179 yard 1 TD 0 Int and 1 fumble in a 24 - 10 win.
