The only ones who pay attention to race issues, are the older crowd. Kids don't care, for the most part. There's just a few isolated cases of hatreds being passed down the generations these days. Most people growing up now have more important things to worry about...

Newspapers pay attention to race issues. Scratch that.

create race issues. Because it sells copy. Or it did. To the older crowd, just like you said. It's the old guard liberals who keep pining for issues that won't bite them right back in the bum (like AIDS and homosexuality).
You're right about kids not caring. And it's one more example of why newspapers are failing...they're decreasingly relevant to today's populace.
There is actually very little racism from the sociological majority. Most conflicts are those of culture. There is plenty of racism from the sociological minorities...b/c they're looking for preferential treatment.

This thing called "interracial" is somewhat arbitrary. If it sooths resentment, that's great. I believe it creates more diversity, which is to be applauded. But the notion of homogenizing people is not appealing to me.
We're always being told that race shouldn't matter....but the truth is a sly person can take a perceived disadvantage and turn it into a real advantage. So Cal is very diverse and my kid doesn't know the difference between black, white or brown. To him everyone is the same unless they have a name he can't pronounce or speak a language he doesn't understand. When that happens all he understands is some kid's got a name he can't pronounce and someone's speaking a language he doesn't understand - nothing more, nothing less. If he develops racial biases he didn't learn it in my house. I would imagine it's hard being a bigot in So Cal without going bonkers.
