If I were a good high school player in Cincinnati, and I knew the record UC has had the last few years in putting players into the NFL, I think I might stick around.

Celek is thriving at Philadelphia. Barwin (although no longer a tight end) was a second round pick.
I keep hearing Florida is probably going to offer Welch in the next week as well.

The 2010 class in this area is the best I've ever seen from top to bottom.
If I could call Rodriguez, I'd tell him to offer O'Conner too.
I guess the one thing i can agree with Buckeyes on is "I Don't Give a Damn about the whole state of..."

I think Welch is a long shot for UC despite our good ties with Elder. We already have the top TE in the area coming in that class. Kelly does not use multiple tight ends THAT often and Welch would have to compete for four years to get his reps. I think he'll probably end up somewhere else.

i think Marcus had mentioned how his preferred position is TE but he can play other positions. i think that if he goes to UC it'll probably be at another position than TE. Guidugli is still going to be there as well as Robinson.
Report: Oklahoma offers Welch

Elder junior TE Alex Welch (6-4, 220) has been offered by Oklahoma, according to ScoutingOhio.com. Welch has 20 other offers, including Florida State, UC, Louisville, Michigan, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Boston College, North Carolina, North Carolina State and several others.
Oklahoma is by far his best offer. As a TE prospect that would be a hard one to pass up since they use the TE so much in the passing game and receiving is Alex's strength.
The odds from UC and Welch get longer with each successive offer
Add another offer to a very impressive list... Notre Dame just offered.

UC is a big time program and Welch will never make or break anything. UC is very attractive to many top shelf hs kids.
It has nothing to do with the stature of UC's program. But there are some relevant facts not in UC's favor. UC is only going to take one TE and it's Smith, Welch really wants to play TE, UC can't promise him that opportunity, that is the most damning factor against UC. He has some of the biggest schools in the country coming at him, schools where TE is a position of need and there is an open scholarship. All that added up is not encouraging for UC. No Welch going elsewhere isn't going to make much of a difference.
This has nothing to do with UC whatsoever. Bottom line is UC got their #1 guy at TE in Alex Smith.
Smith would have equal if not better offers than Welch if he had not committed early.

I've said time and time again these are the 2 best TE prospects I've seen out of Cincinnati since I've been old enough to follow football. I think both are WAY better than Kyle Rudolph and any other TE that has come out of this area.

I just hope Welch doesn't go to ND and sit in Rudolph's shadow again for another 2 years. He's better and shouldn't have to relegate himself to doing that again.
FWIW, Got an e-mail this morning from someone very close to Alex. Expect him to commit to ND very very soon.

best of luck to him if this is the case.

Noooooooo! Go to Michigan instead.

This is just me but if I'm a TE prospect I wouldn't find Michigan's offense attractive at all, especially if your strength is as a pass-catcher. You are basically a glorified offensive lineman in RR's offense.

I hate to see him go to ND tho but I figured that is what would happen if offered. That is the most overated / overhyped football program in the country.
I completely agree, but I'd have to think any team would get Welch the ball considering his ability. As you said, I really don't want to see him follow Rudolph and sit behind him. Oklahoma is his best offer and gives him the best chance at becoming a big-time player. If I were a TE looking at my future, I think that would be my target school.
Agree. Oklahoma is far and away his best and most attractive offer at this point for someone of his specific skill sets.

It's hard to pass up a degree from ND though.

Good luck to him.
