Sounds like it on paper:

FIU signed Phil Gary, Jr., a 5-10 point guard from Chicago Malcolm X Community College who averaged nine assists per game to go along with 19 points per game. Gary recorded three triple-doubles this past season where he scored at least 30 points in those three contests.

I guess a point guard who averaged 9 assists will go well with the two guys they signed who averaged 29 and 25 points a game.

Thing is you don't really know how good Jucos are without knowing their competition. I remember when Newell signed Freddie Morgan who averaged 28+ a game in Junior College. Freddie was a nice player for us, put certainly no superstar. That's why I was optimistic about McBride who played at Hutchinson Jr. College. Really don't know the quality of the competition our two signees from Alabama played against.

Isaiah was an outstanding player but, he has a long way to go to prove that he can coach.
Houston's Guy Lewis proved that above-average recruiting can trump below-average coaching.
Can you believe it? A college named Malcolm X.?

I can...especially since there is one named after Bob Jones.

My dad went to Jefferson Davis High School in Houston, Texas. Can you believe they named a school after a goofball that wanted to continue the civil war after Lee surrendered. Thankfully cooler heads prevailed. As crazy as the world is now, I'm surprised we don't have Universities named after Lee Harvey Oswald, Ted Bundy, and Charles Manson.

Goofball or not, there was a Jefferson Davis Junior High in North Little Rock up to the early sixties. You've got to remember, you are in the south, and Jeff Davis and Robert E. Lee were southern heroes. Regardless of how things have changed today, and of our feelings today, that was yesteryear, and you can't change it.

Robert E. Lee yes. Jeff Davis, no. Lee realized when he surrendered his army, there would be others who would be tempted to move to the hills and continue a guerrilla was which could have lasted for years, and ruined the chances of ever healing the wounds. He urged the men to put down their guns and return to their families, which most, if not all, did. And though it took a long time, healing did take place.

If Davis had had his way, thousands more of our young people would have died, and the hatred would have grown so deep that the union could never survive. So a school named after Lee, a true Southern Gentleman is appropriate. Davis. No.

Jeff Davis shouldn't be considered any worse than some of the early presidents who owned slaves. There are plenty of schools named after George Washington, and even the name of our nations capital.

Whoa there. Slavery was definately wrong. But to question George Washington? If not for his leadership you might still be paying taxes to the queen, drinking tea in the afternoon, and watching polo and criquet on weekend afternoons.
This country might have its faults but it is the best country in the world. Revisionist history and political correctness should never get in the way of honoring this countries heroes.
Jeff Davis is a figurehead of the darkest times in this country. An outright traitor that should be considered the same as Benedict Arnold. Like was pointed out above, Lee ended the war and got on with the healing.

I will now get down off my soap box.

I don't have a problem with George Washington, and also none with Jeff Davis. They were a product of the times. He was no more a traitor than any other southerner was at the time.
