i dont get it.
I too am confused, and more than just a little befuddled.
I think he posted the wrong link. I heard something on the radio last night that somebody emailed blakney with a question about game preperation or something. Blakney email him back and the dude posted it on a website or something.
someone from Troy's message board sent Blackeny an email and this was his response.......

Here is the response I got back from LB concerning the woes of the team this year. Thought everyone would like to know hoe LB really feels!

I do not read any internet message boards. First of all I do not have time for such trival uneducated gossip. People need to get a life and do something positive with their time. Anybody can get on a computer and speak like he or she knows something about a football match-up, coach, coaches, or any other subject. You are appreciated as a season ticket holder and you have your right to your opinion. We are working hard to replace 17 starters from 2004. Obviously you expect a lot. We are working 16 hours days to get back where we all want to be and higher. How some people forget!
Have a good day!!

Coach Blakeney
Head Football Coach
And yeah, pretty much every coach in america feels the same way about their school's message board fans. Including Watson about us. To be fair though, imagine if you were to read the posts of a bunch of people who have never done your job, critizing you for how you do it. You wouldnt be to friendly with them either.

While it's true that it may not be fair for people to criticize the coach, coaching is much like public office. You may not like the way the public scrutinizes you, but you get a big paycheck that ultimately is controlled by that public, so you better not bite the hand that feeds you.

I don't know if Blakeney really sent that, but I would think that a I-A head coach would do better to always respond in a positive way, even if the original message is negative. He would win over more people that way.
I think he admitted it on a talk radio show in Montgomery.

Oh, I agree with you completely, thats why I am here posting on the board :) But I also know that If I were a coach, I would have a hard time not taking it personally. and would probably learn to loathe people like me. I can't believe that he keeps his e-mail addy public, most coaches don't.

It's been in the press and on the radio here.

He really sent that.
I think this is what he meant to post...

Don't look for e-mail from Blakeney
Tuesday, October 04, 2005

Larry Blakeney says if Ralph "Shug" Jordan or Paul "Bear" Bryant were coaching today, Al Gore's invention wouldn't be quite so popular in Alabama.

Complaining about wins and losses these days has moved from the drug store coffee drinkers to the Internet. Whining about point spreads, rumors of accidents and occasional actual facts are now spread as fast as you can type them.

What would Bryant do if his every move was challenged by anonymous critics whose expertise may end with the ability to log on to a Web site?

"They'd have nixed that deal in a quick hurry," Blakeney said. "Oh, for those days ..."

A little background on Blakeney's recent Internet adventure is in order. Not that he is savvy enough to have his own Blakeney blog or to be the master of the Troy University Trojans Web site, but the veteran football coach sometimes answers his e-mail.

Well, he did. Now, he's not so sure that those who reach out to him via computer will get a personal response.

Some Troy fans - rabid and semi-casual, apparently - frequent a site called gotroytrojans.com. As the Trojans have gotten off to a stumbling start at 1-3 following last season's historic bowl game appearance, some online commentators are not happy.

One of them sent Blakeney an e-mail telling him that he should surely be aware that the fans are not pleased and he should read said Web site to get a feel of the rumblings of the computer literate.

The writer also issued a challenge to the 15-year coach, saying that he and other posters felt the time was coming quickly when "enough is enough."

Blakeney said he responded to what he thought was a private e-mail with what he thought would be a private e-mail. Well, what's the fun in getting under the coach's skin if nobody knows about it?

The writer put his message and Blakeney's response on the Web.

"We're fine," Blakeney said. "He's a season ticket holder. I know who he is. He wrote me an e-mail, I wrote him back and he posted it. That's not right. That's a privacy issue. I addressed my e-mail to him, made my points and he stuck it on the Web site."

Blakeney's points were that he didn't have time to read "trivial uneducated gossip" online and that those who post it should "get a life and do something positive with their time."

He said the coaching staff was working 16-hour days trying to plug the holes left by 17 starters gone from last season's team and they would continue to do so.

He won't keep hitting the reply button on his e-mail, though. "I didn't have any business doing that, but I did try to answer my e-mail. I wrote an answer, sent it back and it wound up on the Web site. That's the last time they will see something on a Web site from me.

"It's a crazy world."

And very different from what those two Alabama and Auburn legends had to face.
