We pretty much know he is not going to get the WSU job. What is the reaction within the inner circle? Is our administration going to ignore that our HC publically interviewed for another job?

Do tell!!
It doesn't matter what we think.

I'm not an insider I guess, but I can predict what we will do.

It's like my daddy used to say: when you're nose deep in s*%#, keep your mouth shut!

I'm afraid that's our only workable option unless a criminal turd grad on the BOT throws us a lifeline.
What does it matter to the admin anyway? UAB going to fire him?
Cannot afford the buyout, so he can do what he pleases...
Coaches at all levels in all sports interview for jobs and return to their current employer... unfortunately at UAB, we haven't had enough coaches or history to see stuff like this happen that often and we get a a lot of reactionary fans.

None of us will really know what will happen until it happens. I do know this: we have an incredibly frustrated fan base who does not like Mike Davis right now. We'll see what happens, but I just don;t see UAB making any move that involves paying someone to vacate a job, no matter who's money it is.
I really have no problem with him interviewing for the job. The only coach I know of in UAB history that didn't interview for another job was Murry.

The problem I have with Davis is for two weeks he cried in interviews about how his recruiting was suffering because of all the rumors about him leaving. And what does he do to quell those rumors - he interviews for another job in a public manner. That interview should have not happened if he was serious about his recruiting or in the least, been done very quietly or a public statement by Davis saying he listened to them and decided not to pursue it because he wants to remain at UAB. If he made that statement, we all know he would be full of sh!t, but it would look better from the recruiting standpoint.

That's my big question about this twist and your recruiting situation. You guys have your work cut out for you in recruiting. Any AD with an internet connection can figure that out and then wonder about his commitment once he gets something going at their school. Davis clearly knows the odds on getting another job. Why even hurt your efforts? Do the stand up thing and play the hand you've been dealt. Is he that nuts and just hopes he gets lucky with one of these jobs?

Sorry guys, this must suck.
Murry interviewed with Auburn.

WSU had to get permission from UAB to talk to MD. Otherwise, it is tampering and they can get in trouble with the NCAA. Since you want MD to leave, I would think you would be happy to give permission to any school that wants to interview him. Either he gets another job and you are off the hook, you pay the buyout, or he stays at UAB until his contract expires.

They don't HAVE to get permission. It is a courtesy and not required. Kentucky had discussions with Calipari over the weekend and got "permission" on Monday from Memphis to talk to him. There is no NCAA mandate to get permission.

That kind of sense and degree of observation is not allowed on an internet message board. 04-bow

Davis is only hurting himself by doing crap like this. He should man up and quit.

How many of us would "man up" and quit their jobs without having another one lined up?
FMD is now going to recruit players who will follow him to his next stop. UAB is about to get seriously screwed.

Well, I figure that most of us have not been banking the kind of money Davis has over the last half a dozen years either. I could pay off every debt I owe, upgrade my house and cars, and still live rather comfortably for a couple of years on just one year of his UAB salary, let along the boost he's been getting from his IU payout.

That's a fair question, and I can honestly say I wouldn't. Now, having said that, if there were expectations of me, and I had failed to meet them, and I feel the boss would like to pull the plug, but for whatever reason isn't prepared to, I bear down, get my **** together as best I can, and do everything I can. THEN if they fire me, it won't be because I didn't go balls to the wall while I was on their dime.
It's time to break out the Pointer Sisters and put this all behind us.

Disagree. He's being paid a large sum of money to do a job. He should work his tail off to do his job. Anything less and he'll be 2-for-2 at running excellent basketball programs into the ground.

He did at Indiana. In the middle of the season. Of course he coached the rest of the year, but he didn't have a job lined up when he announced his resignation. I'm sure he pretty much knew he'd have been fired at year's end anyway, but he didn't have to quit when he did. He could have ridden it out.

So it's not outside the realm of possibility that he could resign without another gig in hand, though I'm not sure the pressure being put on him currently is anything close to the fire he was under at Indiana. When he starts calling in "sick" to games (see the Iowa game) you'll know the time is near.
Here's hoping he calls in sick to games next year. We've actually got some decent coaches sitting on our bench, and they might be able to finish a game or two...without costly technical fouls.
