I'm wondering if any Temple fans have heard about a rumor that the non-football playing schools of the A-10 and Big East want to merge?

I heard about it on the Ohio HS forums.
No way. That's 17 schools depending on how you define "non-football." I'm including Notre Dame and also Dayton, Duquesne and Fordham, which play non- or reduced-scholarship football. The only schools that play at the highest competitive levels of FCS and FBS are UMass, URI, Richmond, Temple (with Charlotte joining that list soon).

I think what will happen is Xavier, Dayton join the BE Catholic schools...maybe St. Louis if Notre Dame works out a deal to stay aligned with the football schools.
The Big East is going to split before it ever gets bigger.
Dayton, Xavier & St Lious & the 7 BE catholic gives the
5 in midwest & 5 on east coast.
would not be surprised to see them add Butler & UMASS.
Don't know if Duquense, Detriot, Holly Cross or Richmond
bring enough to the table
can play tourn in Cin or Newark NJ
Sweet the Big East gets bigger what. Not going to happen.

I my forst post wasn't very clear. The Big East shrinks because the non-football schools leave to join up with some of the A-10 teams in a new conference.

Thats an interesting spin on things. First I heard of this one. Makes little sense. Its fans of the football schools that want out. All I heard in the past is the Presidents like the setup.

shoot me with a link.

I trust HS forums less than these.

Here's where I read it.

I started this thread to ask if anybody had heard something like this, because I couldn't find any sources. It would affect the MAC because of Temple.
I would think midwest conference of St Louis, Marquette, Depaul, Notre Dame, Xavier, Dayton, Butler, and Creighton would be very likely down the road. It would create another automatic bid, plus perhaps have mulitple bids with high rpi.
