Birmingham will be one of four other locations hosting the Friday/Sunday games on Round 1 and 2 of the 2008 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament.

Friday and Sunday, March 21 and 23, 2008

BJCC Arena
Birmingham, Ala.
Host: Southeastern Conference

Alltel Arena
North Little Rock, Ark.
Host: University of Arkansas-Little Rock

RBC Center
Raleigh, N.C.
Host: North Carolina State University

St. Pete Times Forum
Tampa, Fla.
Host: University of South Florida

All I have to say is WHY is the SEC hosting the tournament and NOT UAB? I know that the SEC is HQ'ed in Birmingham, but still...UAB should get it, not the SEC. It's OUR city.

Ah well, it could be worse...UAT could be hosting it!

Yeh that was announced a couple of months ago.

UAB used to host NCAA tournaments in Birmingham until they changed the rules on site selections on us. Coach Bartow then saw no advantage to hosting anymore and we haven't ever bid again. Plus if we bid we would have to play at least one regular season game at the BJCC for it to be eligible for site selection.
I wonder who will play one game in the BJCC that year to make it eligible. NCAA rules state that at least one NCAA DI game must be played in any arena hosting a NCAA tournament game.

We have been the host in the past when we were in the Sun Belt.

The SEC is hosting because they bid on it. Imagine that..... :bang:
Maybe they'll revive the Arbys Hardwood Classic for a year? ...
you're not far off...but its supposed to be an UAT/ Auburn doubleheader named the C.M. Newton Classic....ala the John Wooden Classic in Anaheim
