KC’s “power and light” district is next door to the Sprint Center, so that was our 1st stop on the 65 degree day. It had a lot of restaurants and a open air center with a HUGE TV. I had one of the best cheese burgers I have ever had. Nice area.
Now the NAIA national championships were down the street. Lots of basketball being playing in a square mile down town.
Memphis vs Cal State Northridge what you did not see on TV
Cal State traveled pretty well and Memphis brought their huge amount of fans. The refs really screwed Cal State down the stretch and it was one of “our refs” that did it. Those kids were getting fouled and they did not give them a call. Our tall ref that is so bad was calling. The guy robbed those kids of their chance to win.
CSN’s guard play was really good. I am so sick of watching poor guard play. Cal State’s pg looked to get to the hoop every time down. He made good passes that setup the other players to score. Cal State was a really nice looking mid-major team.
Maryland vs Cal what you did not see on TV
Both schools traveled about the same. Cal did not look as well coached as Maryland. Maryland had a 6’7” 265lbs kid that had the tree trunk legs. He could shoot and just smart with the ball. Not much to say other than Maryland will probably beat Memphis.
Mich vs Clem
Michigan traveled really well, as you would expect. Clemson had the talent to win but Belign (sp?) just coached a circle around them. Never doubt that guy. The zone defense made up for the lack of bigs and the offense just makes the other team look bad.
OK vs cal’s old coach
I stayed until half, so I did not see Griffin get thrown on his head. Griffin is just a man child. Not much to say about if other than OKC’s weak guard play is going to get exposed by Mich on Saturday.
Refs
There were about 4 of the guys that we have at our games calling the tournament. The tall ref that Frickie said was the worse ref ever was calling in this tournament. The gray haired guy that calls our games was there.
Got home in time to see WKU get a screw job in the last 2 minutes that almost cost them the game. How do the refs miss the call for the ball being tipped and going out of bounds? I saw nothing of it on CBS sports or ESPN.
