Rocket Digest reporter Karl Rofkar and photographer Paul Nelson were at the football spring media day yesterday. Below is Karl's report with some photos from Paul.

Spring is in the Air
Fine article. Maybe the Blade should ask for permission to reprint it.

" Maurice says one of the main things they’re working on is “I think we’re going to surprise a lot of people this year. We’re more aggressive, we’ll be attacking more. coming from everywhere; we’re not necessarily coming from just the defensive tackle or defensive end.”"

Sounds like the defense will be as wide open as the offense.
Great stuff Karl. Thanks for taking the time to put it together and bring us the info.
I hypothesized last week that Barry Church may be used in a "Troy Polamalu" kind of role, and when I mentioned that to Church, he laughed and said that's what Coach had in mind.
Nice job Karl and Paul!!! 04-rock
Kudos Karl and Paul.

To Rocketime's point:

Stephen Williams summed up what Rocket fans can look for in the 2009 season.
Quote:Excitement. We really want the Glass Bowl rockin’, so it’s going to be a lot of excitement. A different offense, a faster, stronger defense, it’s something new to look at.

Didn't the initial Rose defensive game plan look like this as well?

By reading just what I wrote on the subject, yes, you could say that. But honestly, it sounds VERY different. Not only will players be coming from different directions and positions, they'll also be coming from a variety of sets. Beckman talked about sending players from the ends, from the LB position, from the safety positions, even cornerback. In sum, from every position on the field, in multiple formations. If this develops as it sounds, it will be far more complex for an offense to prepare.
