Full Version: Why did PD III not have it down the stretch

i didn't have a visual of what was going on, maybe somebody who did can tell me if the last minute of reg and ot were clear out plays for PD III. He can not be contained - he can pass - he can finish and he was perfect from the line and he doesn't turn it over ---- why wouldn't you let him create down the stretch not just on the last poss...???
Like I was thinking during the UTEP game. You shut down Vaden, we can still play a top 10 team a close game. You shut down PDIII, we can't beat a mediocre UTEP team.

I'm assuming that's just a rhetorical question because the answer is obvious. Our coach is an idiot who has been so focused on his singular goal of getting one specific player to the NBA over all else (including winning and losing) that he either doesn't care or can't see that he has an unstoppable force who is pure clutch EVERY SINGLE TIME while his alleged "superstar" he brought with him chokes EVERY SINGLE TIME he has a chance in a clutch situation. Fortunately, sometimes circumstances dictate situtions that even Mike Davis can't screw up...like "less than ten seconds and no timeouts and PDIII takes the inbounds pass."

Vaden did not take a single shot in OT or even many down the stretch. Davis knows who's clutch and those men had the ball. I'm including AJ and Lo's clutch rebounding.
Couldn't disagree more. The offense was inept down the stretch in both regulation and OT because they were trying to get Vaden involved and he couldn't get open. When we scored, it was when the shot clock was winding down and we had to make something happen. Under twenty seconds, we force the ball to Vaden, he got bailed out on a travel call (which would have been patented Vaden), and then he couldn't hit the free throw (shades of Tulsa). Vaden played pretty well today...played hard, made shots...I'm not blaming him for the overall disappointment of barely beating a team we destroyed twice...obviously it's coaching when a game like this happens. They weren't ready to play for whatever reason.

But what matters is that we have a clear best player who has the ability to put the team on his back at crunchtime and almost score at will. And we never give him the ball off set plays when the game is on the line. We're trying to set up Vaden for a three. It's only when PDIII decides to simply take over do things work out. He's our best player. It's not close. And CMD refuses to acknowledge it. I want him to say one time...this is PDIII's team.

Geez, hatred is dropping your IQ by multiples of 50. If Davis wanted Vaden to have the ball down the stretch or in OT, Vaden would have had the ball. Until one of you haters can come up with some serious cash, please stay on the Smack Board. Ripping our coach is doing nothing for UAB.
pdIII got a nice interview from Raita at 6:00 -
i refer back to bartow, for those were the glory days (IMHO) and he had absolutley no problem letting guys go to work "one on one" late in the shot clock or in crunch time.... he would often say "if you're a player you're a player" he gave his guards great freedom to ad-lib and make it happen. i think PDIII thrives in that situation. Davis may have some good sets and "plays" but you got to let the big dog eat come game time... and there is no question PDIII is the "big dog" when the game is on the line. Great guard play wins in post-season we all know that - Vaden did shoot it a little better today - but PDIII is so soild with the ball, i am hoping today gave him the extra confiodence boost to take games over and win them for us the next few weeks!!

Ooooh, don't state state the truth that cold, bro.
I know what you're sayin' but easy turbo, easy. Don't be so harsh.
I ain't disagreein' but... let's think "TEAM ball". Ya know?

Whoever can be clutch, will be clutch.
History has shown that PDIII CAN COME THROUGH IN THE CLUTCH.

It may be Robert or Los or CT next time. Let's hope.

WE HAVE GOT TO GET ALL 4 SENIORS TO PLAY WELL AND SCORE THEIR AVERAGE OR ABOVE IN THE SAME GAME!!!!!

when they all score above their average and are guarding at all - these blazers are tough!!! i am looking for that to happen, but game on the line i like the ball in pds hands - he may very well get doubled and kick to vaden or lo for a jumper and that is great - just let him intiate and make a "one on one" move and see what happpens...
if they all score above their ave and guard - maybe it won't go down to the wire!!!
I don't understand this conversation at all.

If we can hit a friggin' free throw, if we get more than 4 points combined from Lo/CT, we win going away.

This game was lost a hundred times before PD3 waved his magic wand, but if Vaden hadn't been lighting it up early, that 3 at the end of regulation doesn't matter.

We stunk the joint up this afternoon. We needed a miracle at the end and we got one. I will sleep well tonight.
Vaden kept us in the game but PDIII grabbed us the victory.

Kinnard is something like 2-20+ FG over the last two games. I really hope he got it out of his system and can score points tomorrow. We HAVE to hit on all cylinders tomorrow: solid shooting, good defense, 70% FT, smart play, and hustle for 40 minutes.
6/11 from 3 point range, 5 rebounds, and 2 blocks. I'd say that helped us out a lot.

And PD3 did get the ball down the stretch. On probably every single play. Kinnard wasn't hitting his shots, and Toney played little because of foul trouble.

Some of you will find anything to complain about. We're one of four teams left in the tournament. Be proud and quit nitpicking.
