VanDelay's head basketball writer, Dan Whitmyer (a Ohio University alumnus), has posted his thoughts on the fact that Ohio is not sending their basketball band to the MAC Tournament this year.

Halle-Frickin-Lu-YEAH!! I will never forget (or forgive) their crashing of the gate at BGSU in 1983.

i made a comment on the article page, and i'll say it here too. it's an OUTRAGE! McDavis should take a lot of heat for this terrible decision.

25 years have passed... Wow, think about what you just said.
Wow....I just don't understand having the MAC's highest paid coach and not sending the band. Ohio basketball is its signature program for decades.

Maybe paying the highest salary for your coach and not being able to afford to send the band might be related.

Wow indeed!

One of the things I love about post season is the bands from both participating schools. I think it adds to the atmosphere, making for a great tournament. What a shame.

The game was completely sold out and Anderson Arena was full. About 15 minutes before game time, the OU band director...or one of his minions opened the back door down by the floor and the whole band starting streaming in and forced everyone in the student section for BG to cram to the left.

Then they proceeded to play as loud as hell every time the BG band started to play anything.

Absolutely no class and I will never forgive or forget it! 03-wink
Not bringing the best band in the MAC was certainly bad Karma. Bobcats paid dearly for that on Thursday.
I missed the OU bank this year - as did most in attendance. The games on Tuesday without bands and some of the cheerleaders provided a very stale environment. Thursday and Friday were much better.

No matter if you like or hate the Bobcats, no one can deny that they are the best and more entertaining band (by far) in the MAC. As a former college band-geek (Toledo), Ohio sets the standard for pep and marching bands in this league.

Some kudos for Ball State's pep band though, they are much better this year than year's past.

Sounds a lot like, "The Shock Doctrine." Are you sure "Uncle Miltie" Friedman, didn't "orchestrate" this fiasco?
