i'd go, set it up with the Hogs and Wolves.
that would be really cool to have at niu...and some extra revenue
Hogs and Wolves would draw a large crowd. 04-cheers04-bow
If this is done right, there are some great cross promotional opportunities for NIU athletics, the Hogs and the Wolves. The Wolves draw a young fan demographic with a high Female percentage.
Wolves and Hogs, money in the bank!
They should have built the Convo Ctr. with an ice rink. One - it would just be cool for students, and I'm sure many would pay to skate. Two, the club could become a team - college hockey may be the coolest sport there is. Three, they could pull in games such as those suggested above. Too bad people didn't either have the foresight, or more likely, there just wasn't enough money, to pull that off.
I wonder how much NIU could make off this game....just the promotion for it would help the school in my mind
ICE HOGS = EAST SIDE

Wolves = WEST SIDE

It would be tough to build an indoor rink that would be large enough to hold the attendance that they're hoping for for this game. But Ice Hockey would be a great sport to add if it weren't for title 9. The 3 MAC programs that play D1 Hockey (Miami, BGSU & WMU) draw as many if not more total fans than all 12 women's hoops teams and the hockey programs charge $20 per ticket compared to $5 at most for women's hoops.
I would've gone to NIU hockey games even if the team performed like our basketball team. well maybe not...the environment probably would've still sucked and they can't serve beer

BGSU is actually considering dropping the hockey program

I did go the the NIU games in Rockford and geneva and they did play as bad as the hoops team. the games were fun though, but I'm a hockey nut.

They wouldn't do this game at the convo even if it had a rink, the point is its an outdoor game.

There is a reason why most college hockey programs have dedicated rinks: size. Basketball court is 94 feet long and 50 feet wide. A standard hockey rink is more than twice as long at 200 feet and 85 feet wide.

So you can imagine what a giant money sucking hole women's hoops is.

Damn shame if it happens. How much friggin $ do women's sports lose, but we can't talk about cutting any of those.
I believe UIHuskies had a good post a week or so ago detailing the financial situation of athletic programs. Women's basketball is the supermassive blackhole of college athletics financially.
Does anyone doubt that if NIU had a Men's D1 hockey program that it wouldn't outdraw men's & women's hoops combined?
