Catching highlights of the USA/WKU game last night, for USA they had this charming moniker: "S. Bama"
I saw that too... they used to show S. Al. or South Al. or seldomly USA. I wonder if they changed it to S. Bama to maybe eliminate some confusion for folks. I suppose some thought USA could be a team representing the country (they even have the same colors), or that South Al. or S. Al. could be South Alaska or something like that. But my gosh... either most of America is full of complete half-wits or ESPN *thinks* that America is full of complete half-wits. So many of these naming things (us included) are supposedly done because people don't know where we're at or some other lame reason.
I used to hate it when we were in the Sun Belt with South Alabama and their fans would start chanting U-S-A, U-S-A. Made it seem like UAB was the commies are something.
You should have simply chanted back "U-S-S-R!" That would have thrown them for a loop.

Different times ......I promise, it would not have been considered cool.

I don't disagree with you. But it would have confused them. That's all I meant by it.
Boy, did this thread take an interesting turn.

"C-S-A, C-S-A" 03-drunk
I've always thought that South Alabama's school colors should be anything except red, white, and blue. After all, if you're a South Al fan wearing one of your red, white, and blue sweatshirts with "USA" on it, people think you're just being patriotic but don't associate it with the school.
