It is being reported on an Akron blog(http://www.ohio.com Mike Razor) that Chris Singletary will be suspended for the entire MAC tournament. His source is Rick Boyages who does oversee basketball for the MAC. The reason was the punch he threw at Nate Linhart during the Akron-Kent game. Singletary was ejected during the game. Anyone else hearing anything about this?
I saw the same thing from Rasor. This would be a big loss for the Flashes, but IMO the MAC made the right move. No reason for that type of thuggery.
Per the one really bad writer at the Plain Dealer:
http://www.cleveland.com/sports/college/...n_con.html

"It was a personal flagrant foul on Chris Singletary. They had five shots available (on the monitor) ... it was a non-basketball play and warranted a flagrant,'' said official Terry Wymer to a pool reporter.''

Singletary will not have to miss any MAC Tournament games.

No. We will have to wait and hear from the MAC office. _Asor either has it right or has published something he made up. We will find out tomorrow.

Chris should have been tossed, IMO. Wonderful to see the Flashes crawl back and deliver the legitimate blow to the gut.

I know that a flagrant is ruled differently than fighting. A flagrant foul does not automatically impose any additional penalties, but the conference can if they feel additional penalties are justified. Elton's article does site Singletary not being suspended because of it being a flagrant. Razor's blog indicates that it is the conferences decision to suspend, not required. I would image the conference would have to release some type of statement(soon), if he is suspended.
Does anyone have a YouTube video or anything? It couldn't have been that bad, hardly anyone in the arena saw it. At this point I can't see it warranting a suspension unless a video tells me otherwise. Three officials didn't deem it as being a foul the first time through either.

I'm not for punching as a part of basketball, so I won't try to defend Chris at all if he indeed threw a punch. But, at the same time, Linehart isn't exactly Mr. Clean. His shot to Singletary's boys last year and then his attempt at taking two foul shots in place of another player today doesn't exactly make him the perfect one. In fact his non-Oscar-worthy rolling around on the floor and then his tough guy attitude (hold me back coach) cry baby face was amusing. Pretty big drama for what ended up not causing any problems for the rest of the game.

Again, if there was a full out punch then by all means suspend him. If not, then we'll see him at the MAC tourny. I didn't find it odd that the officals could actually go back and look at the tape. Do the rules state this is allowed? Can we now go back and review every foul? Why wasn't Linhart's foul last year reviewed?
I can't imagine Rick Boyages gave a comment to Mike Razor that none of the other reporters at the game wouldn't have been able to get.

Chris has to learn to keep his emotions under control. He hurts himself, his team and the game when he doesn't. The ONLY way he can play the target off of his back is to stay calm and let his game to the talking. If he can't, he can't stay. I write this as a Singletary fan.

Chris needs to look now further than Big Shot, who made Linehart look like a 60 year old fat man who somehow wandered onto the court in the last five minutes. That's the way to take care of Linehart's cheap antics.
I watched the game on TV. They had a great angle on the replay. It was an obvious punch, right to Linharts ribs. He reached back and hit him with a closed fist. It knocked the wind out of him.

Including the ref 3 feet away.

With 2 minutes left in the game Linhart comes flying in to rebound an Al Fisher miss and hammered Al with an elbow to the ribs and then threw another guy off to the other side on his tail, which was funny because it was his teammate. He followed that up with a very hard foul on McKee's breakaway yet none of that contact fazed him while Singletary's idiotic foul had him looking like that. He definitely deserved an Oscar.

wishful thinking on the zits part and the hack reporter Razor, nice reporting guess we just make things up to fit our bias.

zits03-hissyfit FLASHES 04-rock
And right now Rick Boyages is wondering who this clown is that is putting him out there like that.
from the abj

''They had five shots available, and the guys in the [video] truck did a great job,'' head referee Terry Wymer said after the game. ''It was a nonbasketball play and warranted a flagrant.''

Mid-American Conference Commissioner Rick Chryst added that because the foul was not classified as a punch and therefore not part of a fight, it did not carry a one-game suspension. Singletary can participate in KSU's first-round game against Northern Illinois at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the MAC Tournament at Quicken Loans Arena.

Kent State Athletic Director Laing Kennedy said he and KSU coach Geno Ford will review video of the play to decide if any further penalties would be assessed."

I found it funny that Akron had more students there than Kent State(I dont count the ones who sit by old alumni and golf clap).

And what's even funnier is that most of your students didn't even understand the "Felons 'R Us" sign.

And yes, everyone around me was getting phone calls freaking out about "some Kent player punching" Linhart. Having the game on TV exposes that sort of thing.

That said, I doubt the MAC will suspend him from the tourney. They never get ANYTHING right.

All in all, an exciting game. This is what makes rivalries. See you queers in the finals(again).

Seems the KSU students decided to stay in and study, if the Akron kids worried about things like that they might've gotten accepted into a school like KSU and not settled for Akron.

Get an engineering college and then we'll talk.

The AK-Rowdies pride ourselves on the lack of class. You're lucky our AD has really tightened down on our leaders. No more BullShi!t chants and the like.

you hit the nail right on the head, classless clowns from a wannabe community college/high school on the hill

Well nobody's ever accused you of being classy, and thanks for the new signature line.

I dont know where you KSU fans get this sense of superiority. It's no feat to get accepted to Kent State. Excellent use of the quotations by the way.

I understood the sarcasm.

Just because you guys can muster up about twenty drunk frat boys for a rivalry game, doesn't mean Akron is the same way. We have something called pride. Not that your students would know much about that.
