In an earlier post some people thought i was bashing Vaden and I was not. I realize that he had a bad game against memphis and is still an nba quality player. Ive had class with Robert and he is a super nice guy who i wish nothing but the best for. All im saying is that if Vaden can find the guy who destroyed uk and utep last year one more time we can beat anybody anytime anyplace. i got chills watching Vaden's highlights from the uk game last year! pd3, kinnard, and vaden need to all be on their games to beat memphis no matter where we play. i know its possible. if those three are rolling we are as good as anybody. throw in channing and things can get real interesting. I'm 100% behind these guys. no next year....only now. no looking ahead to pro careers in the nba or over seas....just the here and now. this team and their fans need to just focus on right now. i still fully expect these guys to make the dance, one way or the other. but thats just one fans opinion, whats yours?
UAb can win the tournament. There is no doubt in my mind that if you play a more team oriented game and we have an off night you can knock off Memphis. As I said in another post, UAb is in need of a break. It will happen eventualy.
I agree completely STC. I don't think you said anything out of line in your original post about Vaden. He struggled greatly last Thurs night and there's no denying that. I believe that for us to win the CUSA Tournament we need all of our guys playing their absolute best basketball and when Vaden is playing his best, he's generally the best player on the court.
Memphis has taller, longer, faster players than our guys. Kinnard, Jr, PDIII (when healthy) and Cam Moore are the only guys we have that can really run and jump with them.

So we must shoot the lights out. So in turn Vaden must shoot the lights out, or not shoot at all. I'm sure Mike Davis is devising a way to get Vaden free of Antonio Anderson and Robert Dozier. We have know for 4 years that Anderson was one of the better defenders in the league. Anderson used to shut down Marvette too. Last Thursday when Vaden/Davis had Anderson's defense figured out a little and he got off a shot or two undefended, Memphis swapped Dozier over on him.

I would expect to see a set play or three early where Vaden gets a chance at a run out layup or a back door cut, or an inside the free throw line 10 footer, just to get him scoring early. If we don't have a good showing in the finals against Memphis it would be just as bad as not making them, as far as our NCAA chances go.
we got the players but the hc need to be studying overtime. The memphis staff is very good
He need to call time out just to rest the players. I never saw him doing that

Moore need to play more , vaden need to play good for a change against Memphis
IMO Taggart is who beat us last Thursday from the Memphis side. He had 4 fouls in 17 minutes in the first game. And Crawford played equal to him. In the second game they bring in PHN to lean on Crawford and let Taggart get in a groove, and his stat line ends up looking just like Doziers.

We need MDJr. to come in and get in a wrestling match with Taggart and both of them get tossed. Crawford can play with just Dozier or just Taggart, but not both. We have got to force Calimari to take out PHN earlier than he did too. Niles ate up 03-lmfao valuable minutes for Memphis to start both halves last Thursday. PHN being the goon in the paint allowed Taggart and Dozier to roam a bit with those 9 foot wing spans and alter shots and snag loose balls.

Wait a minute.... last year against Memphis at home, Vaden scored 27 points on 8-14 shooting from the field against the very same Antonio Anderson. And we have more scoring options this year than last year, so Anderson and the entire Memphis defensive game plan focused on stopping Vaden. And even though they won, they did not do it by stopping Vaden. I know Anderson is a great defender, but I don't believe that Vaden's poor night was that much of a product of Anderson's defense.
Also, I'm hesitant to talk about us facing Memphis presumptively in the championship game considering we have not won our first game the past two years. Not to mention we have two big games left.
guys, Anderson is six foot eight, not six three like many other guards Vaden plays against. It is just a tough matchup. Simple as that.

Though the other nite I thought he had SOME good looks, they just did not fall.

Are you capable of beating us? Not impossible, but it on a night when we are off, and you guys are totally at your best.

But if you check the kenpom.com rankings, we are holding other teams to .80 points per 100 possessions.

That is the lowest in history.
AA is not 6-8. Try about 6-6 or less. Should not be a problem for Vaden.
I think the lack of depth could become a problem in the tournament.
we have no depth. as a result we cant afford to foul which means we cant play in your face d. it also means we have little if any chance of having the legs to win in a tourney.
Most of Vaden's shots were wide open misses. Go watch the game again.

It was in his head. It had little to do with Anderson and Evans was on him too.

Anderson isn't going to stop everybody every time. And Vaden isn't going to miss 17 in a row. Hell I would bet a paycheck that Anderson couldn't keep me from hitting one out of 17, and I'm fat and 42.

We had an inside presence last year. Taller perimeter defenders like Anderson and Dozier must to help out play defense inside and play back a bit to defend the post entry. This year we don't have a threaten post man, so Anderson, Dozier, et. al. can bump, grab, and poke Vaden all night, and over play the passing lanes, becuase they aren't going to get burnt.

I said though in a different post, Taggart beat us. Vaden's misses aided that, but Taggart did more than anyone expected.

I would say lack of depth and bigs has been a problem and will be a problem the remainder of the season. That being said, we have overcome that problem before, and we can continue to do so. We just have to play smart and get some good bounces off of the glass.
third time is a charm

FIND A WAY
Think AJ can be the difference. In the past 2 games at Bartow against Memphis, AJ had great games. He needs to have those type of games at FedEx. No early foul trouble, limited turn-overs, penetrate and make SMART decisions, and harass Evans.
Memphis can cruise past everyone else while resting their starters for 15 minutes per game. Lo, PDIII, RV, and CT will all be playing 35+ minutes if we play Tulsa or Houston in the semis. We will just be too worn down if we make it to the finals, and Memphis will still be fresh. Not saying we still can't do it, but it would take all four of those guys shooting the lights out, plus HC or Cam stepping up.
I don't like the fact that if we make the finals, we will have to play the late game on Fri. then turn around a have to play a relative early final on Sat. Isn't the game on Sat. at 10:30 or something because of TV?
