I believe Penn St took 30,000 tickets & keep the money
Eagles took 10,000 tickets & keep the money
Penn St also realized recuriting benifits
& realized it was a good way to get allumni involved that are locked out of tickets.
Penn St also saw road game close by that it used for bowl type atmosphere for thier fans.

Now I know why I said '95% or higher' and not 99%. 05-nono

I forgot that PSU got an allotment of tickets as part of the deal.

I did remember, however, that there was a food fight over the 'open' seats and who would get to them first - PSU or TU fans.
MSU had to think thier were benifits to agree to the game in the 1st place.
as part of negiating the contract, I can't believe the dispursement of tickets was not discussed.
For WM to try and take full responsablity of tickets would be stupid.
Majority of MSU season ticket holders proabblly live or close to Detriot as East Lansing.
PSU and the Eagles took 40,000 of the 69,000 ? Wow. No wonder MAC schools take the buy games.
more on the Colorado @ Miami game.

Sounds like Miami gets out of the contract by having help from the MAC office while either Bowling Green or Toledo will host Colorado on ESPN.

I believe the game will be changed to Friday night at 9PM to be shown on one of the ESPN networks.

Toledo is booked this year, and we will never play again on a friday night in september and fight with HS football again for fans.

Toledo has return games we have to honor, and we are not giving our home game against Boise St. A team right now that has more recognition than Colorado right now.

That is a good deal for the MAC.
=>The game against Kentucky, although played in Paul Brown Stadium, would be considered a home game so Miami is not totally losing a home game vs. a BCS opponent.

That being said, there likely will be more blue than red at PBS where at Yager is would be more red.
If all these switches come about, what would have with Miami's game versus Northwestern? That's scheduled for 9/5 and Northwestern doesn't have any open weekends in their schedule (except after Thanksgiving).
There's no reason to go about switching up half the MAC's non-conference schedules. This is looking far more complicated than it should be.

This is only a blog, he simply analyzed the MAC's OOC schedules and eliminated Akron - then offered up Toledo & BGSU as suitable replacements, most likely because those two schools have the best name recognition, in his opinion. I would doubt he has any idea of what is truly going on RE: negotiations between MAC & Big XII.

"Games against Toledo or Bowling Green seem much more likely because they would be more appealing to a wider audience."

This is not the case PSU did not get anywhere near 30,000 tickets... where did you get this nugget? I know of one section that was not available for purchase to TEMPLE season ticket holders before they went on sale to the public. The eagles are paid for the entire season and the presidential suites are not resold sicne these suites are owned for all events. Temple took the whole gate.
I know it's just a blog, but I'd have to disagree. I'm looking at how this could be best for the MAC. Akron, Toledo, and BG really aren't very impressive on a national scale. And no one could argue that any one of those three teams will be better than the other tow.

Long story short...we could discuss the "popularity" of our programs for ever, but what it really boils down to is this: Akron has a brand spankin new stadium, and if people here don't mind opening it on a friday night...then why not?

Good news, MAC found road game for Wym, FAU.
I was worried about losing Alcorn St or Coastal Car
Looks like Miami finally dropped Colorado. They still are obligated to get them a replacement, and now owe the Buffs $750,000 which hopefully they can make up by playing Kentucky.

Would't been easier to send Colo to akron on 10-12
and dump the 1-AA with lowest guarentee & find them a game

It probably would, but Colorado wants a "TV friendly" opponent, whatever that means. I can't see much more TV friendly than playing in a brand-new shiny stadium. Is there really that big of a difference in the appeal of playing BG/NIU/Toledo versus playing Akron that it warrants screwing up even more teams schedules and all that goes along with it?
Giving up a home game to a BCS team! Unbelievable!! 03-banghead Where's DevilGrad? He sure had a lot to say when Kent overscheduled two years ago.
Unfortunately, in the end it's an economic decision, and Miami stands to make quite a bit more $$ if they can find a replacement team for CU and not get stuck with the cancellation fee. I am saddened to lose CU playing in Oxford, but I do like the match-up with Ky at PBS Stadium.....

Grumpy, indignant, intellectually consistent -- and on record against this bull**** for over a week.
