Slow off-season. So, why will YOUR team win the 'Belt in football this season?

If the thread gets too hot i'll move it to the Smack Board, but I figured we could get it rolling here.

TF
yeah, Franklin will help...but we have Neal Brown. and i would take Neal over Tony ANY day. Neal actually runs the football.

Hard to run it when you cannot run it03-hissyfit, so we'll have to pass.

I'm hoping our O-Line is much better. It should be.

I expect nothing less than 7 wins. A lot depends on the QB (and injuries, of course).

Is Jarboe still on the team ?
Because its opposites day?

Yes, alive and well. Along with an All-Mississippi JUCO Wideout in Bruce Jones, kid can ball. Expect to see WR Chip Reeves (4.32 speed) get some action as well. He's supposedly faster than Jerrel Jernigan, but we'll see about that. Jerrel Jernigan is coming back as well. If our offensive line can gel early, there will be very few teams in the nation that could stop our offense. Florida will probably be one of the few.

Do you mean Jason Bruce?? Or is there a player that's slipped through the cracks I don't know about?

True dat. Since Troy has stepped it up on the court, I might actually have some March Madness to look forward to other than the conference tournament! I hope.
Jernigan and Jarboe are going to make a lot of you pull your hair out this season. also, watch out for our running game, because it might be the best in the conference. #32 DuJuan "the Foxx" Harris will be playing on Sunday in a couple of years, until then, he lends his services to the Trojans. It's just so crazy to look at my team and say, "we can beat anyone we play against." when i got to Troy in 2003, our defense was nationally ranked, but our offense was pathetic. Now that we have all the pieces in place, i think Troy is poised to be great.

We are truely the Big Boys of the Belt. 05-mafia

hahahaha. Yes, I meant Jason Bruce. Bruce Jones is my best bud's since middle school's dad! wow. But yes, it is Jason Bruce, my mistake, haha.
ASU is loaded with Sr. If ASU doens't win the belt this year it will be the last year for our coaching staff.
Rusty Smith, Jason Harmon, Rob Housler, Willie Rose, and the other offensive weapons is what FAU will live and die by yet again.

Hopefully our new DLine coach will make some changes so that we can do something on the line.

I've heard of this thing called a Pass Rush, but havent seen it in a few years. I thought it was extinct in Boca.03-banghead
The talent levels with all SBC teams has certainly shot up, no doubt about that fact! The SBC is growing up every year and is gaining reconition, and earning respect slowly but surely. The SBC will have 3
or 4 contenders for the SBC in 2009. Troy, FAU, are the favorites,
and FIU suddenly made a impact during 2008. MTSU now has Tony Franklin, a successful OC, which will change the dynamics of their team.
Ark St, always is tough, and could break out in 2008. UL, La-Mon, NT,
are improving. WKU is entering the conference, has had some good recruiting, and working to put together a good team.
My stance on North Texas is this. Coach Dodge and NT, take alot of
heat because of the last two years, losses/blowouts etc. That is very
understandable and the nature of football fans, especially college football fans. NT was at a all time low in 2006. Ya'll will never really know
all of this stroy. Coach Dodge cleaned house, and started rebuilding.
I do believe the 2009 North Texas team is ready to have break out year.
The system and the players are growing up. Can North Texas win the SBC championship in 2009. No, not this year. One thing for sure, do not
count your game with NT as a automatic win. I will be bold and predict
a 6-6 season.

Killer Senior Offense, as long as D keeps up.... should be a GREAT season.
ASU has a lot of potential for the title this year. They look well-balanced on offense and defense for the upcoming season. If only they could just find a way to keep momentum and get more than 6 wins a season... :bean:

I have to say, those guys are monsters, but what of the O-Line? How is FAU's line looking this year? What about D-Line?

O line should be ok, Towards the end of the year due to injuries some of the sophmores and juniors got signifcant play. I AM worried about Center though. Nick Paris our starting center graduated, so Rusty will have someone new under the ball. He does have all spring and summer to get to know him so I dont think that will be too critical but it can be a concern.

RB is also a concern due to loosing Pierre and Edgecomb to garduation, but keep an eye out for Xavier Stinson. He has shown some skills, but the run is really only used to setup/free the pass.

Dline is still a question mark, The one thing I can say is that it couldnt get much worse then it was. We havent so much as SNIFFED a pass rush in the last 2 years. We will have a new Dline coach so that could influence as well.

Secondary should be solid, Lots of returning talent and plenty of depth.

If the Recievers can get it together and manage to catch the football (we had TERRIBLE dropsies last year) the offense should be quite potent.
