Funny quote from Davis.

Quote:Davis offered a helpful suggestion on what to do with the purple-and-orange uniforms, since Memphis won't be using them.

``If FedEx gives us $2 million," he said, ``we'll wear them."

And I'd have been every bit as up in arms as some of those Memphis folks.
How much did Fed Ex pay Scarbo to write that dreg?
We ***** and moan around here about not having a football stadium, and how we wished some company would pony up some bucks to help build it, and go as far as saying stuff like "they could name it vagisil stadium as far as I'm concerned as long as we get a stadium"- then we act like we are above doing something like Memphis considered? Seems a little inconsistent to me.
A line has to be drawn somewhere.

I draw it changing our team colors, even if for one night.

I suspect that one day players uniforms will look like Nascar uniforms with everything sponsored and the announcers saying things like "Three points by the Viagra player #24" or "Delaney, brought to you by Exxon is going to the foul line" One day we will reach that point. But I don't want UAB to be the ones to be the pioneer in rurining the sport.
I would draw the line at vagisil stadium.

Fair question. I'd have to cogitate on that. I will say off the top of my head that cancer awareness seems slightly more worthy than a commercial entity.

I see no issue doing something for non-profit agencies.
What about awareness for vagisil?

Married men know that stuff can be a godsend!

So if the school is charitable to the organization we can wear their color, but if the organization is charitable to the school we can't?

What corporate organization is being charitable to our athletic teams? Don't they already expect some quid pro quo?

Isn't the Milo's jingle already the last stanza of our fight song?

I understand that there is no one giving the bucks to our school like that, but I thought we were dealing with the hypothetical here. And from what I can tell, Memphis wasn't asked by FedEx to do this, it was an act of the school to show appreciation.

FedEx does have plenty of advertising, that's what they are buying from the school, but it's my understanding, and I could be wrong, that there is a lot of charitable giving above and beyond the purchasing of advertising time. That is where this situation is different, in my opinion.

It is called Public Relations. BTW, I'm guessing UAB gets its fair share in cancer research, including breast cancer.
