Or as Ernie Banks used to say, "It's a beautiful day, let's play two." Although I guess by now most folks don't even remember doubleheaders, let alone Ernie Banks.

Anyway, the Lady Bucs, first in the A-Sun, play their number one pursuer in FGCU at 1:30 pm Saturday. They are only one game ahead of FGCU. If you come a little early Saturday afternoon, you'll get to see some great women's basketball.

I saw the Lady Bucs shred Stetson last night 92-63. They came out fast and furious. We should only hope that the men do so well in shedding their weekend funk. These gals play a fast paced, fundamentally sound game with pressure defense leading to fast break buckets. Siarre Evans handles the ball with the same effortless skill as the best of the guys - behind the back, between the legs, it's all a smooth part of her game. When Stetson made the mistake of coming out in a zone, she immediately shot them out of it with several quick 3's. Taronda Wiles is a great midrange scorer. Tara Davis is a solid point guard and good on the ball defender, Latisha Belcher a solid post player. And they've come a long way from their early season efforts.

If you like quality basketball, you'll like what you see here.
I like mediocre, forgetable basketball.

Just like football. "This game will be great if you like hard-nosed football!"

Dammit! I like pansy-@ss football! Who doesn't?

Yes, of course: a post boosting an ETSU athletic team that is doing well gets a knee jerk mocking response. We’d expect nothing less from ETSU’s biggest fan.

I believe that when it comes to ETSU, you would indeed prefer “mediocre, forgetable (sic) basketball” – the better to fit your only narrative, the decline and fall of ETSU athletics.

Unfortunately, that’s not what the women’s team is playing. So you are excused – everybody else should come to the game.
I'll be there for both!

Goldfinger

I just can't seem to care about women's sports in any capacity

but I will be there for mens game with bells on
I doubt I'll be able to make the women's game, but that's primarily because I have a 2 yr old to tend to. Although I'm sure she would enjoy the women's game, asking her to sit through both is a tall order. Therefore, I'll probably only make the men's game, but I follow the women as much as possible. In fact, last night, I couldn't get the live stats to fly on the 'net, and that was frustrating. Still, glad to hear they're rolling again, and as I've said before, Kemp has them playing tenacious d. TaRonda Wiles is one hell of a player - I watched her rip up Kentucky earlier this year.

Good retort Swva towards ETSU's BIGGEST FAN! I think you handled that well.
No, SW- I was making fun of the fact that you used a cliche.

Nice try at spin.

Although, if you prefer, we could discuss whether the Atlantic Sun is "quality basketball."

Methinks either you haven't watched the women's tennis team, or you're lacking in a particular "capacity"......
(har-har)
And they say I'm insulting . . .
Ah yes, the tired old argument that the ASun sucks. Let's get that discussion going again. What have we not covered? Oh please, let's hear it!
Where have you been PittsburghBucs?
You think I'm wasting my time on here with the Steelers in the Super Bowl?

Go- You're right. We have covered the A-Sun debate. And it breaks down to this-

Either you are

A- Concerned with the direction ETSU is taking. You're afraid there might be a complacency with this conference and an acceptance of the regression. You're fearful of that occurring so you never let it up.

B- You ARE complacent. You believe every bit of propaganda that comes down the pike. You make excuses for a program and conference tanking before it left the So Con at 7-19 that was able to go .500 the very next year in the A-Sun. And instead of saying it is unacceptable- you accept this trade of steak for hamburger and tell us how great McDonald's is.

BECAUSE- BY GOLLY- IF I DON'T- I'M NOT A GOOD FAN!

Poppycock.
Let's go back to what YOU said -- a comment about mediocre basketball and how the ASun is not quality basketball. Need I remind you we beat two teams out of the SoCon this year, and both relatively easily. Do I need to remind you that lowly North Florida, freaking North Florida, beat Furman, the SoCon's worst team, on their home floor? Oh yes, the RPI is lower. You got me there.

I'm not A or B in your ridiculous scenario. I'm just rooting for the team. I can't control, and neither can you, that the SoCon kicked us to the curb. But I didn't quit rooting for the team based on the fact those schools decided to kick us out. That's their problem. It's not my problem that they decided to keep two state-supported universities, one w/ a bigger enrollment than ETSU (UNCG), that doesn't have football in their league. We were a great member of that league, but maybe too good. We won a lot of titles over there. Maybe they were tired of seeing us win titles whether it be in basketball, tennis, or golf, or whatever sport. I want to win a lot of titles over here. I want to see this team get to the NCAAs. If you don't, that's your problem. But I can tell you this -- the only way things get 'better' is if we WIN. Not lose.
You're a little loose with your facts there, GoBucsGo. The win over Chattanooga was *not* easy; it was a battle 'til well into the second half. ETSU, and esp. Tiggs and Pigram, played a *great* game that day, and if *either* of them had slumped as has happened lately, we lose that game.

Also, we did NOT get kicked out of the SoCon - we committed "conference-cide" by failing to uphold our agreement with them. *WE* chose to abandon our brethren.
UNCG and C of C were admitted with that stipulation - we weren't.

Also........

Quote:But I can tell you this -- the only way things get 'better' is if we WIN. Not lose.

........is incorrect as well. There is a role in our society for protesting injustice, wrongs, lying and obfuscation, and all sorts of malfeasance (I know even those categories omit some things that have gone on). Winning doesn't cure ALL ills, nor does expecting better than what's currently the status quo mark one as a traitor.

A quote I've always liked is:

Quote: "A patriot must always be ready to defend his country against his government."
~Edward Abbey

The ETSU athletic administration is, of course, not a government, but we should "take up arms" (metaphorically) to defend the integrity of what we used to have, and what could have been, against the tyranny and mismanagement that has plagued us lo these last few years.

So sayeth posterformerlyknownasthedoctor.

I AGREE!!!!!!! GO BUCS!!!!!!!!
How does winning not cure the ills you guys profess? If we wint the league many times over, this will give us a better chance to get into a better league, yes? Or, it may be that the ASun continues to improve & we stay put.

I'll admit - I don't know the history of the stipulations w/ UNCG & Charleston. I still think it's odd that they get to stay in the league, even though, at least in Greensboro's case, they have a larger enrollment.

When I talk about winning easily vs. UTC & App, I'm not talking about the first half. Talking about the final score.

Look, I'm w/ the pro-SoCon/pro-football contingent. But whining & complaining that has blanketed this board will get you nowhere. I've said this before, and heard crickets: You need a PLAN. A plan to raise money. A plan to market the program. A plan to bring forward that won't cost the university a mint. I don't know if you've noticed, but there's an economic downturn going on. Raising that money would be tough right now, but might be able to be done w/ the economy improves. But if we bring football back, I won't a better product than what we had before.

This is my last post on this tired old thread. When I can predict your response to this, it's a little old.
Sorry - this is my last post - won't = want - I want a better product than what we had before.

Now, trash me.

But we *did* have a plan. We had a plan for all those things. Doc had the whole enchilada laid out. The "whining and complaining" is mostly what got the ball moving. It's what prompted Smith to write those articles. It's why stanton never could become comfortable with his decision, and eventually admitted (without saying that word) that he was wrong. It's what got the TN state legislature to vote unanimously that football should be played here. And I could go on and on. Refusal to accept this debacle was what got the ball rolling. stanton's end-around trumped that plan, and, agreed, this is not the time because of the shape of the financial world, to try and push that through. But there *was* going to be a football team, and there still *will* be - it just got set back a few years.

This has all been beat to death, too, so I'll also stop here and let it go....
