how? what? que? I need someone to explain how this is possible. Are these walkons? or do they somehow have 41 scholarships available?

Ole Miss has 37 also
They gave an offer to anything that moves?
They probably undersigned last year and were able to oversign this year. I know that is the case for Ole Miss. Probably others will be grayshirted, probably others are academic risks that might not qualify, and probably others will be walk-ons.

I imagine it's a combination of all four, just because that's a ridiculous number of kids to sign on one day.
My understanding was only those signed in December could count towards last years class. We have one like that so we can sign 26 this year. Can anybody clarify this?
I think what happened is that they chased after alot of recruits expecting some to go other places and 41 people committed to them today. that number in this case would have to go down in the next few days do to denies. this will hurt their future recruiting

again this is just speculation
Isn't there a scholarship restriction of 25 per year?
Well for starters, Dontavious Pyron was added twice, so that cuts it to 40. Rivals also added the grayshirts that came from last years class by mistake. I'm guessing the person who updated the Troy 2009 class just saw the names on the official list and probably didn't realize some were grayshirts. Otherwise the grayshirts wouldn't have had completely new profiles with 4.9 ratings added to Rivals. Jimmy Arnold, Gavin Ellis, Felton Payton, Demarcus Robertson, Corey Robinson, and Johnny Thompson were the grayshirts. So for the actual 2009 class, we had 34. Scout.com did it right and didn't add the grayshirts.

On top of that, we had leftover scholarships from a bunch of guys that didn't qualify or sign last year, just like Ole Miss.

Troy also will send some to JUCO's and some might not qualify.
calm down Blazers, don't be so quick to take a jab or say something nasty. Like CardinalandBlack said, they included last year's greyshirts, as well as accidentally doubling some names on the list. We are right where we are supposed to be.

More and more kids just want to play for the Trojans. We're a very successful program.
a hundred kids can sign LOI's, but only 25 can receive a scholarship.
Big numbers are a PR stunt for the kids and the schools
well it's not your program, so it's not your problem. We don't have idiots running the show, they know what they are doing better than a bunch of fans posting on a message board. i'm sure it's all part of a plan.
Easy Beavis, he didnt say it was wrong or knock Troy for that.

Some schools show invited walkons as signees. Some sign and place a lot in Juco. Sometimes Mid years show up on the current year and others the previous year. It did look odd with 40 signees.

That being said Troy had a nice class and should be happy. They had the best in the sunbelt. Good Luck
Troy has a good class no doubt... the problem with them claiming this many spots and the fact that Rivals ranks teams based on a TOTAL points system. The fact they've got nearly double the listed signees as every other school gives them a falsely elevated ranking. Again, not a big problem, except for the fact the Troy fans are boasting about having such a better class than most others in CUSA.
It makes more sense to compare star average... just because University A signs 50 kids doesn't mean their class is better than University B's 25.

If you go by star average, I think you get a better representation of the QUALITY of player...

Star average has UAB at #61, Troy at #74.

Wow... I can't wait to see Troy's APR in football in the coming years. UAB went down that road and paid the price. Sounds like Troy football offers are as easy to obtain as a Troy degree. Boom. Roasted.
TO even everythig you need to use the average because some team get 15 scholly and some 41
UAB is rank 61 with an average of 2.57
Troy is rank 76 with an average of 2.35 not bad for a sun belt team

you know, you guys talk about TROY the same way Memphis fans talk about UAB. I don't believe you all like being the butt end either, so think about that when you take cheap shots at the Trojans. If a school does something stupid and deserves to be made fun of then that's fair game, but to go out of your way to be a jerk just because, well that's tacky. I'd say the same to TROY fans too. Rudeness is never called for.

It's just all the nature of the beast. Memphis can't say anything when it comes to football. But, it is expected when we visit their board to hear them talk all the smack they want. So, unfortunately for you, you'll have to deal with it while you are here.

Save your post though, and then look back on it in a couple of years when you are doing the same thing to South Alabama.

Btw, welcome to Blazertalk.
I haven't seen a single F troy post, so nobody here is acting like a Memphis fan. At least not yet.
well maybe i'm not the kind of person who talks a lot of trash. I love my team, and i respect the fact that others love their's. no one is ever going to turn their back on their team because a fan of another team said something nasty. and i'm not dillusional, i know yall talk trash about TROY on here. I just wish you wouldn't do it on a thread where I am discussing sports in a respectful manner with posters. Out of sight out of mind.
