Full Version: Would Foley go to UAF?

I have no worries about Coach Foley leaving the State for another job. If the job at UAF came open, they would be fools not to consider him and he would have to look at it. While the men's program has been down for over a decade and been pretty much irrelevant on the national scene, the women's program has become a disaster since Coach Blair was forced out. It's got to be an embarrassment to the new AD. Doubt he will do anything this year, but who knows. It would be to late to help the SEC Women's tourney in the Rock this year anyway.

I thought they were nuts when they didn't talk to Coach Foley when they had an opening. Apparently he didn't even get a look. Since that time he has taken the Little Rock job.

Not that the Fayetteville job wouldn't be higher profile job, but I'm not sure that is what Coach Foley is necessarily looking for. I could easily be wrong, but I think he has become pretty comfortable being the coach here.

I have no idea if Joe would be interested in the pig job. But, I do think that someone is going to be interested in Joe Foley soon, if not already. Being that the Sun Belt has had three men's coaches hired by SEC schools in the past four or five years, it makes since that the Sun Belt's two most successful women's coaches at the moment, Middle Tennessee's coach, and Joe Foley are surely going to be looked at by bigger programs.

I'm not sure UAF would consider hiring a coach from UALR, no matter how great he is. However, I surely would expect a big time program with an opening to possibly be interested in Joe. How could they not?02-13-banana

I suspect that they'd rather hire a coach who wouldn't win a game, than hire a coach from another school in Arkansas. Remember that sham that they put on several years ago when they supposedly interviewed Porter and Dickie the Nutt. They had no intention of hiring either. It wouldn't have made any difference if either had won every game they'd ever coached at their respective schools. The would rather lose than stoop so low as to hire a coach from an in-state school.

[/quote] That didn't keep them from hiring Chris Poole for Womens Volleyball from ASU to start up their womens program a few years back.

Geez people, that chip on your backs has got to be really heavy. Jeff Long doesn't come from this part of the world, and he seems like a guy who isn't going to let pettiness get in the way of decision making. The Blair/Witch fiasco set that program back at least 10 years. Tom Collen will be given a fair shot at undoing the damage. I don't expect the Ladybacks to be in the market for a new coach anytime soon. If they are, and the best man/woman for the job happens to coach in the state already, look out.

Jeff Long isn't from around here, but the Board of Governors are, and don't think for a minute that they want the Hogs playing in state schools. If he had free rein, we'd already be on their basketball schedule. Remember the story that Former D1 told of the assistant who called to see about scheduling a game, and called back thirty minutes later to say he couldn't do it. As long as Coach Broyles is alive, it won't happen. Maybe someday, after he is gone, and maybe even Jeff Long is gone, it might happen. But not before.01-lauramac2
