I heard the radio ad a couple of times today for next week's game, to see "the nation's 6th rated passer Darrell Hackney" and "2nd ranked receiver, Roddy White"--so I thought I'd check out the NCAA stats for myself.

For those of us who have survived boring and inept offenses at UAB for so many years, it's pretty exciting to see Hackney and White, and even Burks and Lindsey, putting up pretty good offensive numbers.

Here's where some UAB players stand, nationally:

Hackney is #6 in passing efficiency (also, #1 in TD % per attempt, and tied for 2nd in yds per attempt). He is also 26th nationally in total offense (247.3 ypg). He also has three of the top 42 individual peformances in passing effeciency this year, 3 of the top 62 games in passing yardage, and 3 of the top 66 in total offense.

Roddy is #2 in yards receiving per game and 25th in receptions (41). He also has three of the top 100 games in passing yardage (including the 2nd best of the season last week against Tulane).

Burks is #64 in rushing yards per game (76). Lindsey is #13 in punt returns and #20 in kickoff returns. Even Nick Hayes, after his slow start, is now 9/13 in field goals.

As far as TEAM offensive stats, UAB is:

11th in scoring offense (35.86 ppg)
4th in passing efficiency
27th in passing offense
17th in turnover margin

We also have three of the top 89 performances of the season in total yards (Saturday's 649 ties us for the 6th best game), and three of the top 85 games of passing yardage (as a point of comparison, Texas Tech has four of the top seven!).

As for as defensive stats, well....they may be more "offensive" than our offense. Those numbers have been well-documented this week, so we won't go there for now.

It's just nice to finally have an offense that can move the ball and score.

Go Blazers!

As crazy as it may sound, has UAB ever been ranked higher in the offensive categories than they were in the defensive categories before?
No.

This is the first time, and hopefully, there won't be a repeat performance.
