Gee do you think Golden is trying to get talent that can contribute right away so he can jump to the next job?

Nah. I think it is to save him from the unemployment line. 05-stirthepot
He's going to need more than these 4 to help him out that much...
I suppose I will be banned and the thread immediately removed to smack talk but your information is grossly exaggerated. Temple has verbals from two Juco players, Keith Carlos and Deonte Parker.

Prep schools arent junior colleges, friend.
Prep schools or reform schools don't count as JUCOs. And even Al has to know nobody wants a 10-26 coach, unless Cheney State, Kutztown or Slippery Rock has an opening.
Just going by what ESPN has on their site...

Linky

Also kids go to prep schools for the same reasons they go to JCs. This isn't meant to be smack talk but it's obvious that Golden simply wants to win in the short term so he can jump ship and cares less about actually building program with substainable success.

Scipio has a point here. This thread looks like it was started to bash Temple in a subdued way. And subsequent posts are getting nastier. The ONLY reason it hasn't been moved to Smack yet is that I didn't want him to get the impression that HE was the reason. I'd like to REQUEST that you tone it down a bit.
Nots sure what you mean since the prep schoolers all have 4 years of eligibility. Sometimes kids need some seasoning before they are ready for college. The leading rusher in the NCAA went to prep school, prep schoolers isnt a sign of short timer however when Golden gets his dream job I'll carry his bags cause it will mean he's resurrected Temple.
It really wasn't meant to be smack talk, I just happened to be looking at the ESPN MAC gradesheet and saw 8 JC commits from Temple. Now I've dug a bit deeper and I see that there are three JUCOs and 5 PG commits. So I was wrong, but misguided. I do however stand by my statement that kids go to PG schools for the same reason they go to JUCOs. If I were a Temple fan I would be concerned about Golden's motives. Like I said, it seems to me he's looking to have some short term success possibly at the cost of the program down the road, simply so he can jump ship to a better position. I'm not a Temple basher, I hope they continue to improve as it only helps the conference as a whole.
He's 10 and 26 in 3 years, which means he could run the table next year and still not be over .500, so I don't think he's thinking that way at all. Kids go to prep school for their grades but sometimes they just go there to improve their chances at a scholarship.
They go to prep schools because of the loophole that allows them to keep those four years of eligibility. But very few, if any of those kids, are in prep school even though they had good grades and/or qualified academically for college upon graduation from high school. The NCAA is currently looking at cracking down on prep schools simply because they have become diploma mills where kids can go boost their GPA while doing next to nothing academically and still retain all four years of eligibility. I don't think there is anything wrong with taking a couple kids per class that are suspect academically, but I'd be wary of taking 8 as most likely some will end up in trouble academically while at college and could result in APR penalties.

Look at it this way, of these 8 guys 6 of them are studs and come in and contribute immediately. Temple goes 6-6 or 7-5 and makes a bowl game and Golden is gone. You had a good season, but now half those guys fail out of school in the off-season and not only have you lost them, the new coach has also lost available scholarships to replace them going forward. Maybe that happens maybe it doesn't, I just don't think it's good to make a habit of bringing in 8 academically questionable kids every year.
He may be 10-26 but if he takes Temple to a bowl game, he will be a candidate for openings.

If history shows us nothing else, maybe 4 of those 8 make it to campus in August. And even if they do go 6-6, adding it to the 10-26 makes him 16-32, who would really want to bring in a guy winning 33% of the time?
Not to bash Temple but it is almost unheard of for a coach to do what he thinks it takes to win. I mean imagine taking some steps to improve your record- like that's what they're paying him for or something. Disgusting.

C'mon folks, the guy is paid to win- if he can do it with JUOCs or prep guys or whomever - go for it. If players have serious character issues that's one thing but if they need to improve their academics and can stay eligible at Temple more power to them. As someone noted I suspect Golden needs a good season this year or Temple might be pondering whether he's the right guy.

Which is why I "bashed" but there is probably some truth to it.
Ask Gary Darnell how the prep/JC route works.

Makes little difference how many studs Golden Al brings in as long as he is still the game time coach. He is horrible! He has had the best recruits in the MAC for the last three years, and still can't beat Buffalo.
17 post in a couple hours, Temple best thing that ever happened to MAC,
sure seems like that apathtic tag takes a back seat when Temple mentioned.

Com'on Hammer, Kent took Tyree Evans. you can't bash Temple FB for prep schoolers.

SS is right, if Golden gets another job; great, that means Temple on solid ground.
Read the posts again, I got my digs in at Golden being the most over rated coach in college football not at Temple for taking the prep schoolers, everybody does that.
Three words.....Can't Beat Buffalo!
