I'm sick of watching a team that seems apathetic as much as anyone, but I do want there to be a team later...

That said... keep your heads on straight and don't blow this out of proportion. If UAB runs Watson out of town on a rail, I'm not sure that would be healthy for the program - as in it might not make it.

Some teams can have fans that throw bricks through coachs' windows, look for replacements before the current one is gone, and other goofball antics and be just fine. I don't know if that is the case at UAB.

If we're on this board it means we are the real die hard fans (or hard core detractors with nothing else to do.) The best thing for the school and the program is for us not to lose our cool and start calling for Watson's resignation, or mailing the president with a fire Watson tirade, etc. like some mindless hun lynch mob.

Express your issues constructively and keep in mind what is best for UAB. If you really think getting rid of Watson would be the best thing... hold that thought until the end of the season - or at least don't make an a$$ out of yourselves.
Give me a break! I for one think that UAB Football is bigger than WB. He is not what is keeping UAB football alive. :chair:
The following is keeping UAB football together:

President Garrison
Athletic Director Watson Brown
Head Football Coach Watson Brown & the coaching staff
The few big time supporters of Watson Brown (Ireland, Sr; Hall Thompson, Drummond)
The 600 Blazer Club members (yes, only 600 scholarship money givers)
The football season ticket holders - 20,000 (comprised of 16,500 corporate/government and 3,500 individual season ticket holders)
City of Birmingham - Parks & Recreation Board (Legion Field)
ESPN/ESPN 2, CSS, ESPN Gameplan (they dropped two of the games $$$03-wink - $400,000 TV money
Miss. State, FSU - $850,000 money games

All of these factors are what is keeping UAB football alive. Note: You don't see facilities anywhere except Legion Field.

I am officially for a dome stadium now. It will probably be the only guarantee that UAB football continues to exist over the long term. It also might be the reason why UAB could survive a coaching change and building new facilities. Birmingham would need for UAB football to be successful. Heck, we might even become Birmingham's team someday.
I understand what you are saying. I'm the most guilty of blowing my gasket when this happens but it's not because I'm a pessimist.

I have seen what our team is capable of and I know what kind of players we have on our team. We could/should be a Top 25 team if we had the right coaching.

I honestly don't think we could've won with our gameplan last night if we had USC's team.

The way I'm looking at UAB football is like a relay race. Watson did a great job against all odds during his leg of the race but now he can't go any further. He needs to hand it off to someone fresh to take us further.

Watson is a great man and he has done so much for UAB. There's no denying that he has a great business sense and is a good people person but I'm not convinced we will see seasons where we don't have multiple letdowns with him at the helm. I don't expect perfection but I do expect us to beat teams that are ranked 10th and 11th in total offense in CUSA and not let them have record breaking performances.
The only way Watson leaves is if the three big time supporters who raised $3-4 M dollars the last two years want him to go. The alums and everday supporters who pull their money away from football are short sided and acting emotionally.

We are not an Alabama or Auburn. We are UAB where every dollar counts. Taking money away from UAB football only makes the problem worse. How much better do you think WB and the coaching staff would be if they had brand new facilities and more money to hire better assistant coaches? How many people think a Ron Zook or etc. would come to UAB faced with a hostile board that wants to shut the program down and does not support UAB football, no facilities, no money for football, mediocre attendance, small alumni base and yada yada yada. You guys talk about Mike Anderson, but the realty of it is that UAB basketball has the support of the Birmingham community and the BOT. Mike didn't have to build from scratch with no facilities.

I hope that it is, but my point is that being reactionist jerks as opposed to respectful commentors is not good for the school or the program.
If anyone gets fired it should be Wayne Bolt's fat a$$ first, I think Watson Brown is doing a great job.

And as for a dome...After nearly dreowning last night I'm looking forward to a nice dry dome.03-pissed
I waiting until the end of the season to pass judgement.

But I will say this, if Watson loses his remaining games (and that is a very good possibility) it will be time for a coaching change. If Watson get us to a bowl game this subject is a mute point.

We can blame Bolt for the defensive short comings but Watson was responsible for bringing Bolt to UAB. If this season falls apart this totally falls on Watson shoulders. He knows it and stated it as such in the beginning of the season.

Only thing is that UAB probably can't afford to pay a new coach $300,000 to come here. So either we hire someone like Pat Sullivan or live with mediocricy with Watson Brown. Our choices are very limited.
Actually, Watson Brown gets paid $250,000 as head football coach and $100,000 as AD. His total compensation is $350,000 for both positions. If he goes, then you will not be able to hire an AD for $100,000.

you hit the nail. Yes Watson Brown made bone-headed calls last night. BUT... for the second time in a row, the DEFENSE didn't show up.
BOLT has got to go!!!
Bolt-era defense is no where near B. Clay's. Bolt has no capacity to fill Clay's shoes.

I'm calling BS on this sentence. How would New facilities counter what’s between the ears of the coaches?

I Like WB, but there comes a time to cut your losses and move on.

In the presidential race we heard all the time, and most people agreed that you must judge someone on their record. WB's record speaks for it's self

He is a Good AD but a mediocre coach at best.
Better facilities = better recruits. Better recruits = better talent. Better talent = more wins.

More like:

Better Facilities = better recruits. Better recruits = Better talent. Better talent = more expectations. More expectations = More heartache with a mediocre caching staff not coaching up the talented players = Lost games to 17pt underdogs. :howsad:

Thanks Puff. I was so sick after the debacle last night I was ready for CWB to be gone. After cooling off (as if the &*%^*&^ rain didnt do that) I say CWB is important to UAB's Football future.

I dont understand Bolt. He is a good coach (or at least had been everywhere else). :bang: :bang:
