Quote:There's nothing official on the football front yet.

But the Daily Chronicle has confirmed that Miles Smith, son of Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith, has registered for classes at Northern Illinois. All signs point to Miles, who accepted an offer to become a preferred walk-on at Missouri last season, joining the Huskies.

Smith was a two-star recruit as a safety/linebacker on Scout.com.
Nice. Get the kid some PT and we could see the Lovie Smith Indoor Practice Facility. 05-stirthepot
My friend who works at Admissions had a chance to talk to Lovie when he was here on campus last Friday and Lovie confirmed that his son will be a walk-on this Spring.
Tyler rode the elevator in the dorm with Lovie and Miles when he checked into the dorm last week. I at first thought he was kidding when he told me who he had just been on the elevator with and who was moving into the dorm, or that it was just someone who looked like him. But Ty said his name was Miles Smith and it was obvious who the Dad was.
good for Miles.
good for NIU.

Bears best turn a corner next season or Miles may be miles from NIU come 2010.
Can you imagine that conversation, Coach Lovie calling Coach Kill? After talking about opportunities for Miles..... Do you think they talked about Defenses? Cover -2-'s...etc... Can you imagine coaching a highly successful coaches son and the coach is reviewing your tape? schemes? personnel?

It is tough to earn playing time @ D-1, but that is the challenge of competition.
Good luck to Miles....
This thread with all its potential for the future has nothing but fun and laffs written all over it....we should get alot of mileage from it.

Weekly wagers next season:
Will Smith's Bears or Smith's Huskies yield most points or yards each weekend.

The odds:
Will Lovie attend spring ball or any NIU games?
Will Patton & Smith see playing field at same time in any game next season?

BTW: Where did Miles play HS ball, Lake Forest?

Miles should room with Patton's son. That too would make for great fantasy conversation for fans.
The big thing for him is that he's on campus now doing winter workouts and will get the spring practices too. Gives him a head start on others.
It's refreshing to have a new ,fun and positive topic while waiting for signing day and spring ball.

I'm lovin it.
Does anyone know what kind of eligibility Miles Smith will have?? Is he a sophmore, redshirt Frosh,??? Anybody know??

Looks like he was a HS senior last year, so this would have been his first year at Missouri. If he didn't play this year, then he would be a RS Frosh next season. However, because he is transferring from one Div-I (Missouri) to another (NIU) he will have to sit out next year. That's assuming the transfer rule is the same for non-scholarship (walkons) players.

That is an interesting question - I wonder if anyone knows if walk on rules are the same.
Missouri had another walkon linebacker last year who doesn't appear on their roster now, Jared Culver of Downers Grove South. He was a terrific player in high school and I didn't understand how he fell through the cracks. I saw him play and he was a man among boys out there. It would be great if he wandered up our way too.

well now everything today thats official is on facebook. kidding i hate people who say that.
I wonder if Miles Smith talked to Garrett Wolfe before enrolling at NIU.
Now there is an interesting, natural and logical question to pose.

I should think so.

Maybe Wolfe brought Miles to Huskie Stadium during the season.
