WooHoo....

Quote:A winter storm watch will be in effect starting Monday night and running through Tuesday as near-blizzard conditions are expected in Fulton, Henry, Defiance, and Putnam counties in northwest Ohio and Hillsdale County in southeast Michigan Monday and Tuesday.

The National Weather Service advises that snow will blanket the region, and northwest winds will gain strength Tuesday morning with sustained speeds of 20 to 25 mph, gusting to near 35 mph, according to the weather service.

Strong winds, coupled with three to five inches of new snow and the several inches of snow already on the ground, will create whiteout conditions at times.

Significant drifting is expected, and the wind-chill readings will plunge Tuesday to a range of minus-10 to minus-15.
Not looking forward to those plunging temps toward the end of the week.

Sounds balmy. 03-lmfao We are going to get less snow in DeKAlb(about 2 inches) and windy with windchills to -30. Highs in the teens and a couple days not even reaching double digits. Yikes.

05-offtopic What do you guys know about WR Perez Ashford from Shaker Heights? He has apparently commited to NIU.
Seriously, I love everything about snow and winter sports aside from shoveling the heavy white kind and anything below 10 degrees. A nice fresh coat every couple days is nice, I think I'd actually get depressed living in Florida where nothing ever changes. Work, home sleep, work home sleep... meh!

I don't know very much, I don't think they played any NW ohio teams this year. I better site to visit would be jjhuddle.com. You have to register to see the forums but it is free. They should have more on him than we will.

There are definitely seasonal changes in Florida. It was very depressing here yesterday.Started out the day going to an art festival after about 1-1/2 hours decided it was too warm and cooled off at Wendy's. I went to the beach in Ft Lauderdale. It was amazing. The new hotels/resorts,
restaurants, bars, clubs with hot cars, bikes, etc.all moving up and down A1A.Each hundred feet you'd move you'd get the tantalizing smell of
different gastronomic concoctions and different tunes some live and some recorded. The other side of the street you had the Ocean in all of its blue/green grandeur with a nice breaking surf about 3-5" and a packed beach. It looked like Spring Break.I can't remember the beach being so packed in mid-January,which normally is a dead period. It doesn't usually pickup until the middle of February when NE schools start their breaks.Yup,it's so depressing here.03-lmfao

Bite me! 03-banghead
Ran over Saturday to BG for some bball and hockey action and to play in the alumni athletic band. A foot of snow wasn't going to stop me and living in the snow belt, I can handle the stuff.

Sunday I took the family to the Toledo Zoo [as it is a tradition] and I can't remember enjoying the experience more. I saw a total of five people out of the 5.5 hours we were there. We sat watching Gorillas in the large ape exhibit for 30 minutes and didn't see nor hear another human voice outside of our own. It truly felt like a private viewing of the zoo.

So I say, bring on more snow and more cold!

I love the change of seasons too. Most foods are available year-round, but traditionally I alter my culanary selections to fit the season. I love the smell of meat being hickory-smoked in the Fall and all the colors it brings. There's a distinctive fresh-air smell that only comes with the cold air of Winter and nights are so dark that stars shine very brightly. I love walking through a fresh blanket of snow, that squeaky, crunchy noise of it under my boots, and then having a wind gust pick up snow flakes and lightly pepper my face. Ice storms aren't fun to drive in, but the sight of everything gleaming and shining is awesome. Then Spring brings smells and colors of fresh blooms and the sounds of song birds. If I could control the weather I'd have about six weeks of Fall, six of Winter, six of Spring, and the rest Summer.
THE LATEST: 2"-4" tonight (Monday) into Tuesday, Wednesday into Thursday another 3" - 6" with an official "Blizzard Watch," so there will be drifting as well. After all this fun the temperatures plunge into the single digits. Oh, the weather outside is frightenin'...
Oh it'll be fun walking around campus w/ temps in the single digits w/ winds 15+.

You do know the basic rules of dressing for the cold, don't you? Wear a hat, wool can keep you warm even when it gets wet, keep all skin covered, dress in layers, water proof boots and gloves....

Don't forget, it can ALWAYS get worse! My second freshman year ('92?) it got into the -20 range for a solid week. A young lady I studied with had to call a wrecker to get her car when the clutch cable on her car snapped from the cold. UTs president refused to cancel classes, supposedly because "those stupid frat kids would just be outside playing in it anyway".

And no, I didn't have to walk five miles in knee-deep snow to AND from school.

For awhile, I did walk from Scottwood and back to watch Rocket basketball games on Saturday nights. With limited funds, it was gas money or pitcher money and so I walked.
