That made me laugh out loud.
You think this guy (and brother?) will enroll for the spring '09 semester?
Wow, this guy looks like a great get.

Three star with offers from UAB, CMU, and North Texas. He's the 49th rated Juco in the country. He'll probably start next year.

He graduated in December (as did our other Juco commit), so I would say more than likely yes.

He's rated a 5.7 on the rivals scale, and a quick search shows that would make him the hihgest rated commit in school history.
I thought we didnt believe in Rivals....I heard so many times on this board that they don't know what they're talking about...
This is one of those recruits that we just needed. I thought he was going to end up at UAB or CMU for sure, I think the depth chart at NIU probably ended up bringing him here (and Kill has some very nice Kansas juco connections).

He starts classes Jan 12th so he'll be on the field for spring practices. We needed a corner and thankfully we ended up landing one. I think with Smith/George/Daniels/Whoever we have a solid group of corners. If we didn't land at least 1 juco corner I was going to be very worried.

It's never bad when you bring in the #49 juco prospect out there either http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/vie...a_key=2294
Don't forget we've also recruited CB Dominque Ware from Plainfield North. He may redshirt but minimally provides depth at the position if needed.
Is Daniels a corner? Ware, he should come in ready & expect to compete for playing time. Do NOT believe he will be red shirted.
I like the kids story. Had educational limitations and did not use it as an excuse but worked harder to accomplish his goal. He knows he has to put out in the classroom and I find that to be very encouraging.

Yes, he is enrolled and will be on campus in just a few days.

Yep, towards the end of the season Daniels was playing both. In fact he was probably playing more corner than safety, when pruitt went down it was a move made for depth.

I feel like with Smith/Daniels/George we are 100 times better at corner than we would have been. I prefer to see Daniels moved back to safety if we could magically gain some depth at corner. Sobol is not the answer at safety, although Wilson probably is.

But seriously, this is a definite shot in the arm for our defensive secondary. One of our most glaring needs has been answered. Now I'm looking at...pretty much every other position we have to get upgraded with talent.
These are the kinds of guys NIU must get. First of all, I'm not a huge fan of the JUCO route, but there was an obvious and major need in the secondary, so I don't mind it at all. Second of all, as I've said before, the star rating isn't as important as who else offered the kid, and this guy had interest from some pretty major schools and offers from, among others, UAB as well as Central Michigan, a school that has to be beaten on the recruiting trail before it can be on the field.

Third, he's a talented kid that sounds like he's had some academic troubles in the past. If anything, something like that might be the ONLY reason he doesn't have even more interest and offers, and if we're going to be honest, the best way for NIU to get big time talent is find guys like that and hope they can graduate and eventually do well in school (Garrett Wolfe for example was a guy like that). It's not great to take A TON of guys like that, but I trust the coaches can find special cases and make sure these are the kinds of kids that can help on the field as well as keep their grades up in class.

Finally, although the rivals rankings certainly aren't gospel at all, this kid is their #49 JUCO player. The guys immediately behind him (#50-#52) are going to Tennessee, Missouri, and Oklahoma respectively, so obviously they think very highly of this recruit, Chris Smith.
No matter how you slice it, this is a good get for the program.

I wouldn't mind seeing Kill take one offer from this class and just throw it at a guy who can flat out run and return kicks. OP probably knows more about this juco class than I ever would but I think that there are some guys at COD who are just athletic no position type dudes who would fit that role.
