Why is it that when out on the town....most bars (or unsavory places) have as a door person or bouncer....ugly, but strong dudes. They can put fear into an observer, especially if they can also perform. While speed kills, having skinny, quick types are not usually found.

What I am suggesting is that WMU bring in as many hairy, snot drooling, large boys, on both side of the line (assuming they can remain eligible) as deep as possible. A team usually cannot run, or stop running without them. I do see now and then a blitz by a 245 pound over achiever that works, until he is smashed by a big fugly and pushed out of the way. I'll take a bull rush into the enemy territory or a 5 yard run gain over a sporadic 8 yard slant (unless a Jennings is available) every time. Ball control......first downs demoralize the enemy....and this business of being cute wanes when in the end.....knocking someone down seems to be the key to most winning teams. Not against the 5'9" speedster for change up, but I do see them stood up more often. If they don't get 21 yards.....it might be 2 yards. If one remembers a slammer like Bobby Sanford.....that is my preference. When our QB lines up with nobody in the backfield.....everybody knows it will be a pass.....unless the QB can RUN like a deer, as an afterthought....and without extreme skill players....such predictibility can be defensed easily.

Without babbling on further, bring back the Bubba's, there is much less to teach.
waldo, nice nostalgia and sentiment, but modern college football (thanks to the rules makers, $$ and TV) is basketball on grass.
Also, what I'm seeing from the top teams is a highly developed talents with pushing the boundries of the rules. Absolutely, O linemen holding on EVERY PLAY, hooking arms and clamping down on them, grabbing jerseys and pulling the opponent to the ground, cut blocks, D backs banging away at the receivers arms as the ball is coming in, clawing at peoples faces in the pile, stepping on them when leaving the pile, etc.

If you start to watch for this stuff, it is rampant, and the higher the "level' of the team, the more they seem to do it, and get away with it.

Bubba not only has to be big and ugly, he also has to be a son of a ***** who will get the job done no matter what it takes, and not have any regrets about bending the rules to the breaking point.

Heck, there are teams out there killing people, assaulting students, running from police, and getting away with it. How can we expect officials to catch a hold?
Good point, Chip.
