...how much $$$,$$$$. 00 do you guess NIU lost after covering expenses including eating 10,000 tickets ?05-stirthepot

Despite losing, can you put a price tag on playing in I Bowl and assess a cost-benefit? :muttering:

How long before the figures become public?03-shhhh

10,000*40=$400,000. THen you add travel costs. Lets say rooms are $200 a night for 60 rooms(could be more but for now assume 60)=$12,000 per night *5(?) nights= 60,000. Flights are what? $350/seat* 150=52,500 each way so that makes it $105,000. Food is probably $50/day*150=7500*5=$37,500. I am sure there are other costs as well.

Every year we go to a bowl game. We will never turn down a bowl game. Hell, we would have gone to Hawaii if we had the chance.
I agree but that stll is NOT an answer to my question.
Just answer the question posed as if in a court of law.
I'll say this we could have been Western Michigan who rented out Ford Field and couldn't even get it a quarter full. Not to mention couldn't even have that game televised. Talk about losing money big time. We at least got paid, and we got on national t.v., they got neither.
National TV? Lets not get carried away. While the Independence Bowl might have been on national television, I'm pretty sure you could have canvassed the four corners of the United States and not identified more than two dozen non-Lousiana Tech and NIU connected fans who tuned in to watch the game.

But like Huskiemobileman said, you never turn down a bowl invitation. If it lost some money for NIU then so be it.

Comcast televised the WMU-U of I game.

Which would you rather do:

-Go up against a top NFL matchup on a Sunday night?

-Have your game on the NFL Network that nobody even gets?

I think we got the better end of the stick going to the Indy Bowl rather than the Texas Bowl.

Don't forget the NFL matchup on Sunday night, though initially intriguing, quickly became a blowout with San Diego laying the hammer to Denver. I'll betcha the viewership for the I Bowl wasn't all that bad.

I would actually have to refute the comment on no one watching this game since I live in Alabama. Several people around here told me they caught some or all of the game. If college football is on national tv, people in the south will watch. They eat, drink, and sleep college football down here.

despite the loss and costs the extra practices helps the players, especially with a new coach and playing in a bowl helps with recruiting.
Agreed....and now for an answer to the question: How much did NIU pay for the extra practices and additional TV exposure?

No price tag can be assigned to what were the benefits, but it would be interesting to learn the figures when all is said and done after paying bills.

why are you footing the bill?

benefits out weigh costs, enough said!

It cost a lot, and darn well worth it. The extra month of practice and a late December game (when players would otherwise be laying around eating too much and getting soft) should pay dividends come Spring practice time. What better way to fill in the "slow time".

LIFE IS A GAME- FOOTBALL IS SERIOUS.

There are a lot of people who will watch football no matter who is playing.

I know lots of people who are totally into college football - and NOT the NFL. A bowl game is always good for NIU and for recruiting.
Our bowl game should have helped us recruit QB's... as in "wow, I could do so much better than that, maybe I should go there".
