UNF 2008-2009 Schedule

UNF 2008-2009 Roster
I was more fearful of Wingate that I am of North Florida. I hope the players do not share my sentiment. The only comment I have is I would like to see the bench get plenty of PT.
Got to win the ones that you’re supposed to win.

Physically – their top 8 is as big or slightly bigger than Jacksonville: 2 are 6’7”, 3 are 6’6”, 2 are 6’2” and 1 is 6’0”. But what a difference.

They are the lowest scoring team in the A-Sun (54.4 per game); have the worst scoring margin (-18.9); and have the worst rebounding margin by far (- 8.3). They make only .294 of three’s, and allow .383 to their opponents.

But they did beat the only SoCon team that they played – Furman at Furman, 77-66.

A good team will take the job seriously, and as Bucfaithful says, get everybody lots of playing time.
If this game is within 15, there is cause for concern.
I`m so confident in this game, I`m leaving early to watch O$U vs Texas

This is the type of game that scares me. I remember the Citadel used to have absolutely nothing and yet come in and give us hell.

Well, I know what you mean about those Citadel teams - although I think they often *did* have "something" most times - maybe about 1 or 2 really good players. But they always hustled their asses off every single second, and were well disciplined. I worried much more about Citadel than I do about this one
I'd like to see Sollazzo start shooting some threes. I've only been to the Temple and Jacksonville games, and after the Temple game I thought he had no business being on the court because he was playing so scared. He acts as if he doesnt feel comfortable bringing the ball up, but during the Jacksonville game he put in a shot that I knew was going in the second he went up for it and he looks like he has great form. I'd like to see him camp out behind the three line and let him get some confidence popping em off
Sweet Lord, UNF is bad. Bucs up 43-17 at the half.

Nice to be right 02-13-banana 02-13-banana 02-13-banana 02-13-banana

Have seen that many oops in one half in a LOOOOOOOOOOONG time
UNF needs to go back to DII. Maybe even DIII.
Kudos to Murry on a great job of handling the bench. Even Jarvis got 16 minutes - all other subs over 20 minutes. Yet Murry usually kept enough of the big 3 in there to keep the scoring threat alive. UNF was never allowed to do what USCUpstate did at the Dome last year - turn it into an ugly slog that was closer than it should be.

One question remains unanswered - exactly how bad must Furman be to lose to these guys by 11 on their own floor? I'm not sure I saw enough talent out there tonite to beat Milligan. Still the Bucs did exactly what they needed to do.

How sweet it was to see Mike Smith step out gunning a couple of three's! Keep doing it Mike - that should be your shot every time it's open.

Same with Micah who showed us an even better game than the 13 points that he scored at Mercer. That should be your baseline performance, Micah - you can do this every night! Runningfool15 commented to me how high Micah got in the air on his jumper as if he was straining to get up there as much as possible before he let his shot go. Maybe I was imagining it, but he didn't seem to be straining for height so much tonite - he was more relaxed and purely on fire. You don't need to strain to get that shot off, Micah - this is how you can shoot. Be confident about it. We need you and Mike to relax and be the 3 point threat that you can be.

Speaking of guys who had a more natural looking motion - Isiah at the freethrow line did not look so exaggerated in his knee bend or his arm motion... and made 2 of 2.

Sollazzo - 5 assists, 4 rebounds, some very nice moments running the offense; continued concern about shooting and free throws.

Coy is getting there - 12 points and 6 rebounds in 20 minutes. He's still not entirely in sync. Amazing how high my expectations for him have gotten - what other freshman would give us 12 points and 6 rebounds and leave me feeling "he's getting there". But I really think that's exactly where he is after 3 games back. He's just getting there. And 'there' is somewhere sky high.

Great start by Tiggs - 11 points in the first 10 minutes put us out where we needed to be. And Courtney still had some magic left over from the other night.

A very good setup for the next 4 - Stetson, who beat us on the road last year and has everybody back; Lipscomb and Belmont. We'll know exactly where we stand after that. Nice night all in all.
I wasn't there and was hopeing someone would put up that kind of review. I was curious how Sollazzo played, I was hopeing he would come out of his shell vs. N. Florida
On point swva. We will know exactly where we stand after our next 4. If we manage to win them all, you have to feel like we win the league unless we have a meltdown. We must beat Stetson for sure, but the big one is Belmont. We must take care of them.
Nothing much else to add on this game, other than how dreadful UNF was. Also, the only thing Sollazzo and Jones are lacking right now is confidence. Both have made the giant leap to D1 college basketball after highly successful prep careers. Their trial is by fire, but I see them getting better every game. Both of them took the ball to the rim last night, which was different than settling on a jumper or remaining on the perimeter.

By the way, I was wondering last night, how many true freshman have made an immediate impact at ETSU, say in the past 10 years? I have only been around since 2001, and could really only think of CP, Tim Smith, Tiras Wade (we know the outcome of him), Mike Smith, and perhaps Dequan Twilley to a lesser extent. My point is, that transition to college basketball is brutal. I remember CP being pretty bad defensively his freshman year. His defensive struggles were perhaps on par with Sollazzo and Jones' offensive struggles their freshman years..

Others' thoughts on freshman impact players in the last 10 (or more) years?
Brad Nuckles?

Goldfinger

I was off at school...but didn't wadood struggle until his junior year?
He struggled as a freshman but was quite good as a sophomore (I think he led the SoCon in rebounding as a Soph).
2000-2001 Freshman stats
01 FIELDS, Jerald....... 23-0 19.0 minutes 6.5 ppg .552% 4.3 rpg 20 assists 24 t.o. 18 blocks 19 stl
44 WADOOD, Zakee....... 22-0 9.0 minutes 2.8 ppg .390% 3.0 rpg 9 assists 13 t.o. 12 blocks 13 stl

Fields better shooting touch bought him twice as many minutes of playing time as a freshman, although on a per minute basis Zakee was much better in rebounds, blocks and steals, and less than one behind in points. Zakee made a huge leap sophomore year in scoring and shooting percentage; his rebounding, blocks and steals were way up on a per game basis, but were really about the same on a per minute basis.

2001-2002 Sophomore stats
44 WADOOD, Zakee.. 28-22 29.5 minutes 14.5 ppg .495% 9.2 rpg 31 assists 57 t.o. 34 blocks 48 stl
