"Destined for Greatness"
Q: How does it feel to be virtually unknown at the beginning of the summer, and become one of the top 75 players ranked nationally in the Class of 2010?
A: It feels good, but I am not interested in the rankings. Now im focused on basketball and constantly developing my game.
Q: From my understanding you never played basketball on the middle school level, can you give me more details about that situation?
A: During my 6th grade year, my middle school coach cut me from the team, but he allowed me to practice with the team. When I tried to make the team during my 7th and 8th grade year, my middle school coach just cut me completely.
Q: Since you didn't play middle school basketball, where did this fiery attitude and undeniable passion for the game of basketeball come from?
A: When I was growing up I constantly watched my oldest brother play basketball and I always wanted to play. In middle school I attempted to play but never was given the opportunity. Once I made the team at Ridgeway High School, the opportunity that I had been anxiously awaiting had been given to me.
Q: How are you being recruited and what universities have given you scholarship offers to play basketball on the next level?
A: I am currently being heavily recruited. Memphis, Tennessee, Arkansas, Alabama, Mississippi State, Baylor, Miami, Mississippi, Massachusetts, Northern Illinois, and Oregon State have all offered me a scholarship to play on the next level.
Q: Who pushes you the most on and off the basketball court?
A: My mother, my high school and AAU coaches.
Q: What is the relationship like between you and your high school coach?
A: We have a really cool relationship, he gives me great advice and valuable information about different situations. He really looks out for me and wants the best for me.
Q: What is the relationship like between you and your mother?
A: She means everything and is everything to me. If you are interested in me, you must first have her approval.
Q: Who is going to be involved with your decision in deciding which university you will attend to further your education and display your basketball talents?
A: My family, brothers and mother, and my high school and AAU coaches.
Q: What are some of the activities that are included in your off season workouts?
A: Weight training, Ball handling drills, Post moves, Shooting, Jumping Rope and lots of various activities.
Q: At 6'8, 225 pounds what postition do see yourself contributing the most on the next level of basketball?
A: I honestly think I will play the Power Forward position.
Q: Who is leading in your recruiting process right now?
A: I am not focusing on that right now, I am just working hard right now. I am really not thinking about that right now.
Q: What is your primary focus on right now?
A: My high school education and basketball season.
Q: Are you looking to lead Ridgeway High School to another state title this season?
A: Yes, thats what I am working towards.
We really thank Tarik Black for this interview. The Mid South Basketball Academy expects alot from this promising prospect this basketball season at Ridgeway High School. We really hope that his hard work and dedication to basketball will help lead his team to the pinnacle of Tennessee AAA Basketball Season, another State Championship at Ridgeway High.
