I have this huge black box blocking the top half of my screen. I can't go to other boards or check new posts.

Fix it please.

I said please. 05-mafia
I'm not having that problem. I'm using Google Chrome, but I don't know if that has anything to do with it.
I'm not having it on one of my computers, but on the other one, I am.
Reboot?
From reading the Memphis board, it appears that if you use Internet Explorer version 6, which my work computer uses and I can't upgrade, you are screwed as far as ncaabbs and the new fancy upgrade goes. They are incompatible. However, if you have Internet Explorer 7, which my home laptop has, there are no problems.

Why would you want to use IE anyway? 05-stirthepot

Because I don't define who I am or how cool I am by what my internet browser is. Just as long as it gets the job done, which it usually does to meet my needs.

j/k
If you can't upgrade your IE 6, is there a reason not to load Firefox? You in a situation where your IT guys don't allow it or something?

It's not about being cool or anti-Microsoft, it's an awfully useful browser and there are scads of add on apps to refine it for the things you do a lot. It's good code.

High security does not allow any altering. Actually it is a grey area as to whether I am allowed to be visit Blazertalk or any other non work related web site on the work computer.
Internet Explorer 6 is an immediate security issue even if your computer does not allow for things to change. The IT guy needs to update the image your computer boots from yesterday.

You're at work, shouldn't you be "working" ;-)
It is a simple windows update....not an upgrade. By the way, if your work computers all have IE 6....they all need updating.....to prevent security issues. Right now, your work computer, with IE 6 is vulnerable to security issues because.....there are also several security updates that your computer at work has obviously not been updated with, either. I would suggest to your boss that allows you to go to windows updates and update, which is standard procedure for running IE. Duh.
When you work for a massive company and are just a number, you have no control over what browser you use and how updated it is, nor does anyone care about your opinion. Now, I have managed to depress myself enough for the whole week.

Actually, MS still releases all the necessary updates for IE 6, just as it does for 7 & 8. There are a lot of software companies that have yet to make their software compatible with 7. Go figure.
Seems a lot of people don't understand managing IT at an Enterprise level.

IE6 has outstanding security holes which are unpatched and will never be fixed. IE6 has reached end of life and will never be updated.

Speaking as somebody WHO DOES manage enterprise IT for an entire company ... if you're still using IE6 you're asking for trouble, and you're a total numbnuts/incompetent IT manager.
I also manage IT for many small companies. And there are some(mostly medical field) that still have to use IE6. It's not up to us. It's issues they have when connecting to other companies through VPN's. It's not so much our clients, but more the services that they have to use that straps them down to IE6. And you are incorrect on IE6 not being supported anymore. Critical updates are still released for IE6. We just had to apply a lot of them recently.
Perhaps its a black karma box from slacking off at work.

BTW, why don't these boards have RSS feeds? Duh.
Security risks in software & Microsoft go hand in hand.

Don't think that it is limited to IE6. Most versions continue to have flaws in it.

I'm in IT as well & Microsoft may look pretty, but it isn't really reliable to run a medium to large range company on, but since you have to do business with others, you are forced to have this crap in your organization.
