Great news. I suppose there may be a chance Iowa State pursues TG, but I can't imagine he'd take it. Insiders say Syracuse passed on him because he didn't "want" the job enough. I can't imagine he would be any more enthusiastic about the Iowa State job.
If you want a good laugh, check out the Auburn Scout board: Linky. They really wanted TG and they're now in full-scale meltdown over the hiring of Chizik.
Saves Iowa St. from buying Chizik out after next season. Amazing hire.
Brady Hoke is a finalist for the San Diego State job. Interesting.
I'm not sold on Hoke yet, so far he's only pulled Davis out of hat so far.
Turner Gill be perfect at SDST
SD ST has been a graveyard for several coaching careers; why would Hoke or Gill want to go there? Still can't believe Auburn hired Chizik! Coaches at Ames for 2 years 5-19 record and gets a better job, unbelievable! 03-lmfao
Charles Barkley wanted Gill. Just sort of yelled it the other night on "Inside the NBA." It was pretty funny.
So was Buffalo, that's why SDST should be going hard after Gill

I could see Gill returning to the Big 12 at Iowa State. While Ames is no Lincoln, Gill has a ton of connections in the midwest and he knows his way around Big 12 campuses. If he can win at Buffalo, he can win at ISU.

Hoke barely makes the top 3 in the MAC West imo.WMU went rom 1-10 to todays big dog . In fact they went 7-4 a year after the 1-10 season that got the previous coach fired. Thank god he wasn't good enough for Temple.

CMU has won a MAC champion and NIU went to a bowl the first year under heir coaches.

You obviously have no idea what has gone on at Ball State. When Hoke got there, he had the WORST stadium in the MAC and probably all of D1A, no talent, and little support from the administration. He has quietly built a winner at BSU. His teams have been competitive against the big boys (#2 Michigan in 2006, 8 point loss with a chance to win late, Nebraska in 2007 by 1 point which should have been a win, hung tough with Boston College in 2004...). BSU fell behind in facilities in the early 1990s and took until these past two seasons to even catch up to the pack..Hell, BSU wouldn't even fund more than a handful of out-of-state recruiting trips until Hoke convinced them...What he has done has been nothing short of a miracle. We still lack coaches' offices, the stadium has been upgraded but needs more, and now the admin. doesn't even want to pony up the $$ to keep Hoke around for a few more years. Don't post until you know what you are talking about.

I'm not suggesting Hoke has not done a great job, what I'm suggesting the talent pool in the west is pretty strong. The WMU coach came aboard a 1-10 season (only win over a 1AA team he dismissed a bunch of so called cancers and brought in discipline) then he builds a team that should've gone to a bowl 3 of 4 years (actualy went 2). The only year he doesn't go 500 there were more freak games than a Maddonna concert (see Akron, BSU and CMU). Hes never had an program thats lacked control or incidents that were viewed as problematic as the other schools have in the last 4 years as well. Academics have risen dramatically. I would rate him # 1 for the full body of work. CMU's coach and NIU have done a nice job in their brief tenure. Bradys done a good job and after the "book" problem has appeared to have righted the ship. He al;so appears to be a good guy. So its not him as inadequate, just the opposite hes in a pool of coaches that talents are definitely "BCS" level, imo. And thats w/the constant recruitment of our asst coaches to higher paying jobs. We've had 3 DCs in 4 years.
