Wow, thanks for the pics rag. As someone who had never been on campus before 5yrs ago, this kinda puts some things in perspective. And just remember it looks like things are only getting better!

One more for perspective.....just an awesome Homecoming crowd.

Thanks!

What year are those pics from? Obviously they are from before the 1989 renovation.
BTW, sweet scoreboard we were working with then.

The color pix are from the mid 1970's. Although I do remember the white concession trailers in the north end zone when I hit campus in 1981. The homecoming picture is 1971. We had those scoreboards a long time, probably until 1989.

I was in the band in mid-to-late 70's - those photos look more like early 70's. The crowds for Tony Mason era teams were very good - those look prior to him.
Tony Mason record:
Head Coaching Record
Year Team Overall
1973 Cincinnati 4-7-0
1974 Cincinnati 7-4-0
1975 Cincinnati 6-5-0
1976 Cincinnati 8-3-0
Cincinnati: 25-19-0
He left after the '76 season. So I'm guessing that was the '73 year?

Nice pics, Ragpicker. I'm stealing those.

The mascot has been upgraded just a wee bit as well.

I actually think that the pix are from a band event, not a game. These come from 35mm slides and are for sale on Ebay. There are also a couple more. Just found them, and thought I would share.

I went to a homecoming game in 76'77'?, and I remember a very decent crowd. I was in grade school at the time, but memory is still there.

I had completely repressed the memories of the crumbling concrete bleachers and the chain link fence around the field. What a riot.
I have about 20 yards of that that astro turf you see rolled up and stored in the attic over my garage (don't ask). Its more like indoor outdoor carpet than astro turf.

That's great history to post. Nippert was CONDEMNED at one time... it's amazing how far the university's FB program has come.

In the homecoming pic, the 2nd convertible looks like the front end of a '73 Caprice.

Here's a few pictures I got from the student band president in 1946-47, Gus Schmidt. most are band related, but these are good images of Nippert and a few of El Paso in 1947.
Either Homecoming or the Sun Bowl parade in El Paso.
Band at the Sun Bowl
I think this is Nippert Stadium, but I could be wrong
Here's a few shots of old Carson Field in the 40s.

Ragpicker...where did you find the float picture? I think that it was one of my fraternity floats.

I was doing the same thing a few nights ago- looking up old pictures of Nippert. Boy, have times changed. I really enjoyed finding the old bearcat logos.
