That's good. Hawaii would've been a eye-popping trip for the players, but it's better for the program if it's a "mainland" game in Texas or Shreveport, especially from a financial standpoint. Either bowl will give the players and coaches a taste of traveling somewhere relatively warm.

I just wish that Texas bowl wasn't on the black hole known as the NFL network. But that's the only drawback. Houston be a great destination against a very good team (Rice).

If what the CMU fans are hinting at is correct, Detroit will probably be off the table.

The CMU fans are hinting at what works into their budget. Bait shop revenues are down, the cost of a hunting license is up, the fudge market is dropping, casinos are no longer unique to the northern lower, camo gear is not in style in Hawaii.
If Notre Dame has recieved an at-large bid at 6-6, does that guarantee everyone else with a better record a bowl now, or do they have an exemption on that rule too?
It's down to Texas or Independence.

CMU will be in Detroit.

Stewart Mandel on SI.com just projected WMU to Hawaii. Hope he's wrong, but it's (marginally) better than being at home for the holidays, football-wise.
Mandel's projection was made before ND's 'request' to be invited to Hawaii. The Hawaii Bowl is no longer on the radar for us.
