Is this the real Jason Whitlock or just somebody using his name? Linky

A real shame if it is. I really respected his opinions...especially what he said in his anti-ESPN column. That's all gone now.
And if it is so what? He's a bit disappointed his team lost but pretty much nailed it with his post. Somebody on the losing end is should have some bitterness, nobody wants to see the continued bitterness out of a sore winner though.
Let's count how many things are wrong with what was written:

1) Said Ball St. should have agreed to play Boise on the smurf turf.
2) Blamed the neutral field (funny how UB didn't have any problems playing in a ridiculous, sterile, empty building).
3) Called UB "weak" and not a good enough opponent to get Ball State motivated.
4) Blamed the officials.

Sorry, but I have higher standards for professional journalists...particularly ones I like and respect. I wouldn't care if this was some random jagoff.
Enjoy the win, couldn't happen to a more gracious and humble crew of victorious fans!
You were the epitome of grace and class last week. It's too bad Princess Diana isn't with us any more, she could have learned from you.

That point is just a matter of opinion, and I won't begrudge him for it, whether or not I agree. Is he whining here? Yeah, he is, but that's just Whitlock. Dude is honest and real, warts and all. I respect him for that. I think the former Cardinal will come to regret writing this commentary, especially after UB's win in the International Bowl.
Neutral field and small crowd argument is sad. Show up and play the game. If you can't do that, then shut up.

Lots of MAC teams over the years have been good and gotten less respect than deserved. They still showed up. Ball State was still a great team, just had a bad game. That Whitlock post just belittles things.

Among others...
Bowling Green 2003
Marshall 1999, 2002
Miami 1998, 2003
Toledo 1995, 2001
To be fair, a lot of the BSU fans who responded weren't blaming Ford Field or Boise State for the loss.

I don't see what the issue with having the game at FF is. It isn't exactly fair to make a division champ play a road game to win a conference title in my opinion. I wouldn't mind if they moved the game around a little bit (Lucas Oil, Browns Stadium, even that big stadium in Canton where they play the HoF game might be big enough), but I don't want to see the neutral-site game end.

(Hell, even Rynearson would be OK...we'll never have to worry about EMU playing in the game.)

Sounds great. Lots of people would show up for a night game in December when it is held outdoors so they can enjoy the 25 degree weather and the snow. 01-wingedeagle No sense staying indoors at a new facility when you have the outdoor option.

The MAC has got to stay at Ford Field with the MACC. No question about it. I thought the move to Friday night would draw more than 13,000 but I guess when you have 2 schools coming in from miles away without tradition the numbers won't be good.

I think we should start giving our #1 pick to the International Bowl as the Big East is giving us the #3 or #4 pick for that game.

Ohioans, and possibly Buffaloites, would probably prefer it that way.

Exactly. Believe it or not, there are a lot of fans who aren't afraid of being a little cold for a few hours. I was using Browns Stadium as an example because there are so many MAC schools within three hours it wouldn't be a bad venue (though most are probably closer to FF).

What's more -- I was merely making the point that a neutral site is better than a home game for one of the teams, which would also be played in those 25 degree temps that you're afraid of.
I have the perfect solution: the new Lucas Oil Stadium in Indy with the roof open. Now that is the best of both worlds. 04-rock
