Ohio, Toledo and Akron with big wins tonite in MAC hoops. Ohio and Toledo take down CUSA and A-10. Akron beats a good Niagara team from the MAAC.
Ohio with a great win over Tulsa, a team who dealt TAMU their only loss.

You neglected to mention the best win of all, however. Miami over Temple by 16 points. That's two in a row for MAC teams against Temple. 03-nutkick
Ohio is now #23 in the RPI with its only loss to #10 George Mason on the road where we narrowly missed a come form behind victory.

We are possibly looking at a record of 11-2 heading into MAC play and should be a contender in the MAC.

Groce started late on the recruiting trail and finished with a recruiting class rated among the top 10 for a non-BCS in the country before he's ever coached 1 game.

Flagship full speed ahead.

****, they have a bcs for basketball now too?
Quote:ATHENS, Ohio - Four players scored in double figures and the Ohio University men's basketball team scored 39 points in the last 13:25 of regulation on Wednesday night to down Tulsa, 75-63, and extend its non-conference home winning streak to 23 games.

The Bobcats (3-1) made 20 of their last 22 free throws on the night, including 8-of-10 in the final five minutes, and finished 20-of-24 (.833) as a team from the charity stripe. On the season, Ohio is now 26-of-32 (.813) from the free throw line in the final five minutes of games.

Michael Bramos got hot in the second half and put up 21 of his 26 points and Eric Pollitz held Christmas 12 points below his 24ppg average. Our 6 game odyssey ends with 6,600 miles traveled and a 3-3 road record with all 3 losses to teams ranked in the top 16. We now play our only 3 nonleague home game in a period of 8 days before finals....I think the 4 wins the MAC picked up tonight might top any other 4 wins we have had this year.
Miami indeed gets the big win over Temple. Miami needs to take advantage of their home cookin' and get some W's and set up a solid rpi before the MAC.
toledo's win was the most important of any to a program. it was the unveiling of the new savage arena (incredible btw) with the biggest student crowd in 15 years in the new larger revamped student section. a win over a big time program (albeit one having a down yr) at the buzzer, students storm the court, huge game for new coach who had been struggling and a team coming off 5 straight road games.

would say akron's win also stands out. beating a 5-1 team on the road. solid w's by miami and temple. and yeah, northern played...
I have nothing against Temple, but the general impression i get from many of their fans (not all)...is that they were too good to be scheduling these MAC teams. Meanwhile they lose both games to Miami and UB by double digits. That makes me laugh. I know they feel the A-10 is vastly superior and that may prove to be true....but the only thing they are really superior in is television coverage.

Akron beating Niagara is a great win. The Purple Eagles are a very good MAAC team.
I'd argue that Ohio's win was the biggest of the night. Tulsa had come off a blow out win over Texas A&M. Jerome Tillman battled against players 4-6" taller than him. He took it to them.
So far the MAC is up 4-2 in the unofficial A-10 vs MAC challenge.

Miami's road win at Temple was the big win of an excellent night for the MAC. Temple's RPI will be the best of the lot of last night's opponents come March and those road wins really count.
John Groce is quietly taking an Ohio team picked to finish 5th in its division in the pre-season, and turning into a legitimate contender. Seniors Tillman, Orr, and Allen are really stepping it up, with Steven Coleman playing phenomenal basketball for a true freshman. Hopefully the rest of the conference keeps sleeping on the Bobcats.

The only bad news for Ohio fans is that Groce is doing such a phenomenal job that he is unlikely to remain in Athens for more than a couple years.
And how is the rest of the conference "sleeping" on OU?

I'd say being picked pre-season 5th of 6 in the East is a sign that the conference media gave us little respect. I hope the coaches in the conference do the same.
I think it will be nice for KSU to beat Temple so they can stop with the ego thing. Someone from Temple was posting a while back in one of the forums about how the MAC isn't a real conference and they can't wait to get out of it in football. And how in basketball they were going to kill us. Doesn't seem to be the case, and they picked a few of the last teams from our conference that they would want to play. I think the MAC is going to be a lot more competitive this year and Kent State is going to have their work cut out for them in defending the title much more so than earning it last year.

The MAC did a good job last night! Hopefully we can continue it tonight with a home win against a St. Mary's team that is probably better than they were last year.
There are a lot of rivalries in the East, and there is a lot of relative parity in the East. There is no coach in the East that doesn't know that you have to try to bring your best very night out to expect to win. It is ever thus.

I would hope OU fans think their team is better than to need other teams taking them lightly in order for the Bobs to win.

I expect very tough games up and down the division.

As for the West, eh, we're all taking them lightly. 05-stirthepot

Tulsa was probably the best team the MAC beat last night but in terms of it being a "big" win for a program the Toledo win was enormous. Guess you had to be there to understand it, but Toledo is trying to rejuvenate its fan base and facilities (the team has usually been pretty good) and that win will do wonders. Coming to Toledo during MAC season when school is in session will now be a real challenging atmosphere wise for visiting teams. if UT had lost that nailbiter it would have deflated a lot of energy around campus. I would encourage MAC fans to travel with their team to toledo this yr. the new arena and energy is exciting

congrats to OU, Miami, and Akron those are all quality wins
so a "big" win is more emotional instead of being realistic. gotcha.

When you open up a new $20 Million renovated facility and get a win in the opener with all kinds of ceremonies and dedications, it's a big win.
