in his post game press conference referred to the people on the forums as "knuckleheads". This was in reference on should we play a zone defense. I'm disappointed in Steve on this regard. He's got to know better than going after his fan base. I know he's frustrated, we all our. However, he has to know that everybody on this forum would like to see the Broncos succeed. Afterall, isn't that why were all here? Maybe I'm taking this the wrong way. If you get a chance, listen to his post game press conference for the IUPUI game. It is free on the Broncos website.
Why would Hawkins even have an opinion about people on forums? I would think the last thing he has time for is reading forums. Shouldn't he be studying game film, or taking notes at practice? Something to try to keep the wobbly wheels from falling off of this season? I've always assumed these forums were basically for the fans. I wouldn't expect players or coaches to be reading these forums. Why would they? But just in case then here's my two cents. I would change up the second wave of players because having four obviously unprepared freshmen out there with McLemore has been painful to watch. There appears to be no leadership on the floor. You need to find five men who can hold the fort down and give the starters 3 or 4 minutes of rest and right now that is not happening. 2-5? Dang? I wanna win! Here that Hawkins. This knucklehead wants to win!

Because he's human.

The reporter probably referenced the forum in his Q & A.

Hawks is frustrated, all Broncos are. Let's not turn on each other.
I just watched the post game interview and here's what I did not understand. Why was Hawkins talking about needing to treat the freshman with kid gloves because he doesn't want to destroy their confidence yet it's OK for Hawkins to use the press to call out the older players. Isn't that a double standard? Shouldn't Hawkins have recruited players who were both mentally and physically ready to play D1 college ball? Shouldn't he have the same set of rules for all his players? Then again, what do I know. I'm just a knucklehead.

It's in my article Phil. I asked him a question about using a trap earlier and more often, and within his answer he also talked about using a zone and how it didn't work, but how some on the message boards think he should. No the reporter didn't refer to any forum.

He answers emails and he does (at times) read the forums. Cubit reads Rivals, but I don't think he reads this forum. The SID's all read the forums.
Izzo feels the same way about zones.....NOT.
I understand we are all really frustrated right now with the way the team is playing. The guys have great potential. I was not at the game yesterday but from what I understand and have read we were down by 19 at one point and fought back to within 4 points. Those few minutes of fighting back were probably the best few minutes of basketball that we have played all year. Look at the hand Hawk has been dealt. He has lost 2 assistant coaches, lost key players and LEADERS in Rietz and Hershberger, ...{Mod Edit} This is a rebuilding year. Losing 2 assistant coaches who had been with the program is HUGE. I believe success will come with time.
We didn't fight back...don't kid yourself. Plus, those "tough times at home" should be just that, at home.
It's a tough crowd right now! 04-jawdrop
Well, let's be clear, being patient and saying you are is one thing, making excuses and saying he's got an emotional hangnail is quite another.
Hawk can go F himself, IMO.

A coach should NEVER reference ANYTHING on the Internets.
^
That just boggles my mind as well, WTF?! It's not the first time either, if you all remember.

Maybe he's realizing that he pretty much messed DD's career up and he would be contributing much more now if he hadn't have done so.

Are you joining the CD bandwagon?
Fishing....he wasn't biting. There IS something to be said for developing your players over a period of time like he is saying he is attempting to do now with these kids, if he had done a better job of that, he would have "SEASONED" seniors instead of four/five year guys trying to figure out their role. Hindsight is 20/20 I know.....

As a high school coach I have had alot of stuff posted about me on the internet but I have never addressd those people or posted back. That seems like a strange thing for him to worry about especially since most of us are people that goto games.
If he wants to talk bball have him sign in and start a thread. I am sure we would have a question or two. God forbid he might get asked about playing Zone. Syracuse has run a match up zond for years and they have done ok.

What about Full Court MM, or trap out of MM.

I can't believe people would express their opinions on a message board. Who would have thunk?
I don't think coach thinks EVERY POSTER on the boards is a knucklehead.

Some are. That's part of the fun of it all. If we were all experts I guess we could get our own D-1 program to run, right?

So there are a variety of us on here, some very knowledgeable, some have even played the game, or coached at their local high school or something. Part of what I enjoy is the variety of opinion.

The other thing I like is the light-hearted reparte' I experience here. Kind of a cheap thrill or whatever.

Yeah, I don't know if you noticed, but the Broncos started the 2nd half in what appeared to be a 3-2 zone. They were sliced up like pepperoni.

The biggest problem I've seen with this team is ball movement. Nobody seems to be confident on where to go with the ball once they get it. There is too much standing around and 1-on-1 offense.

And I don't know if anyone has noticed, but if we want to jumpstart our interior game, we need to make a concerted effort to get Flenard into the game, and get him the ball in the post. As a true freshmen, he has the best post moves on the team BY FAR.

And dammit, we need to RUN. When we took our only lead of the game (in the first half), we were ROLLING due to our PUSHING the ball up the court. Shawnee & Don driving to the hole, DD & DK spotting up for 3's....we have the tools to run extremely effective breaks, but we need to force the issue.

7 games in, and I've seen regression, not improvement. I am concerned, but I will await final judgment until January.
