Great column for UAB, especially coming from a Memphis guy!
He's only a Memphis guy in that he lives there. Memphis fans hate him, and he hasn't really shown them too much love, even though he used to be the beat writer.

He was always reporting negative stories about the Tigers.
There was this one time when he reported a story about Jeremy Hunt hitting his girlfriend, and one time when he reported that Joey Dorsey almost caused a riot in a bar by throwing money from the bar. And one time he raised questions when about how players could afford a bunch of furs and high priced items when they were stolen from their apartment.

Not your typical beat writer. 03-lmfao
What continually surprises me is how quickly the national (and local) media forget UAB's success. It was just a few years ago that UAB went to 3 NCAA tournaments in 4 years. There was a brief downturn, but, like any solid program, UAB is back, playing good basketball again. But perception is all too often reality. People have decided that C-USA is "bad" conference--mainly because it's not big enough to compete with BCS conferences, and it's too big to be considered "charming" like the so-called mid-majors--and so UAB suffers accordingly. Point being: I'm glad for Parrish's nice write-up, but, at the same time, I can't help but be offended a bit...
