Will UAB edge out Memphis as C-USA Champion?

Gottlieb says prove it on the floor. He likes Vaden and Delaney, but all we have done is beat an average Arizona team that did everything they could to lose the game 01-lauramac2 04-chairshot Went on to say that, yes, we do have the potential to win the conference, but we must prove it on the floor.

Thom Brennan only said that Vaden has great range.
You wanna shut that crap up? Win games. Simple as that.
Yeah, I just heard them discussing the Pac 10 on ESPN. They mentioned Arizona and said "They lost to UAB, a game they clearly should have won"

That's fine. Everyone keep underestimating us. It was clearly a fluke. Keep underestimating.
I totally disagree with Arizona should have won but in order for UAB not to get disrespected by national pundits like Gotlieb the Blazers need to put teams away when they have them down by double digits. Especially teams that shine in the national spotlight like Arizona.
If there is one thing we've lacked it's that killer instinct. Up by 7-8 points with four minutes to go you can either pour it on and run away or fade and make it a close game that you either squeak out or lose. See Memphis here last season for a great example.
Gotlieb is still mad that we dismantled Okie State at the Bart and he had to announce it. Marvett McDonald was hitting 3s from the dragon's mouth and all Gotlieb could do was watch as we embarrassed them.
As I've said before, "How the hell did we lose to a team like UAB?" is rapidly becoming one of my favorite comments on other teams' message boards.

Just another wild cat head for the wall.
Yeah its nothing. Just going all the way across the country, winning 3 road games in 4 days.. One in front of all home fans... All I can say to all of them is keep hatin, we will show them whatsup. 39 hours and counting.

+1 That has happened too often.
Yeah, but ya have to look at ODU too. A quality team that we finished off in the 2nd half.

I would have to agree with the statement in bold. Arizona is an average team. They also did everything they could to lose the game. Who dives to foul a guy with .9 secs left?

Look at the stats from the Arizona game...We shot .433 from behind the arc. We miss one of those three pointers, or one other field goal we lose. We were on fire from the floor. We were 41% from the free throw line (awful!). Arizona shot 25% from behind the arc (very bad). They make 1 three pointer and we lose. We got out rebounded 47-29. Arizona had 17 offensive rebounds.

If you can win a game shooting 41% from the free throw line, getting out rebounded by 18 boards, and giving up 17 offensive rebounds, it tells you two things. The team that won (UAB) has a very good basketball team to overcome those stats and still win the game. The team that they beat (Arizona) is not very good since they had all these stats in their favor, in addition to shooting 24% better than UAB from the free throw line.

Bottom line...the only reason why we won this game is because we shot lights out from the field and from behind the arc. Period. You can't expect to shoot like that every night. We were lucky. If we consistently shoot free throws like we did against Arizona and get out rebounded like we did, there is no way we will be a Top 25 team.

I don't think their comments were out of line at all.

You didn't watch the game did you.

UAB completely dominated Arizona for about 33 minutes of the game. We didn't shoot hardly any free throws in those first 33 minutes. When we did start shooting FT's, we were flat and then we did panic a little. Arizona being a better than mediocre team saw there opening and took advantage of it.

The story of the game is not that Arizona had that game won until they blew it at the end. Arizona did not have that game won. They were making a nice comeback and they had momentum, but who knows what might have happened in overtime.

Everyone who just saw the replays of the end of the game and looks at the stats do not know what happened in the game.
