Toledo: Amstutz is out. Search is underway.

That leaves BG's Brandon as the dean of MAC coaches, doesn't it? Scary. Many Falcon fans are calling for Brandon's head and, while he has a year remaining on his contract (I think), we may have a vacany, too.

We just heard that EMU has an opening.

Ball State: Will Hoke be lured away on the heels of the Cards' smashing success this year?

Buffalo: Likewise Gill ... will he be lured away?

Ohio: Is there any chance Got Frank will be jettisoned on the heels of a disappointing season?

From the looks of things, the MAC could be a very interesting place to watch during the off season!
I'd say that Hoke & Gill are gone. Frank is safe. His contract is until 2011 or 2013. OU can't afford to buy it out.

Gut feeling amongst some of us Falcon faithful is that there may be enough well-to-do alumni that could pony up the dough to run Greggy out of town. I would imagine OU could do likewise.
We don't have enough of those alumni w/ deep pockets. Our schedule this year was absolutely brutal. I think we will be improved next year. I honestly don't see Solich going anywhere.
The difference between Brandon's salary and Frank's salary is substantial. Then multiply that by the numbers of years remaining on the contract and you've got a much different equation.
Although I would hate to see them leave, even if Gill and Hoke move on to bigger things after this season, due to the improvement in the MAC, both schools should be able to get good replacements. MAC football is definitely moving to a higher level of respectibility around the country. The MAC schools should have no problems filling openings with very good coaches.

Also, it will be interesting to see what happens with Cubit and Jones due to their teams continued success.

I can't see more than 2 of these 4 leaving.
Actually, I can easily see all 4 leaving for better jobs.
Yeah, Frank's not going anywhere. Believe it or not, for a lot of fans, the honeymoon is still on.

Are they drunk?

Must be the Rufies. I hear they're used all over Athens.

I believe it. And the Boobcats have seen worse. Keep Solich and let him have some stability.

As for finding replacements for Hoke and Gill...unfortunately the MAC doesn't seem to look that far ahead. Finding a solid candidate to be mentored isn't SOP, but is should be.

There's some research I'm having trouble w/ trying to get the name of a guy who I'd like to see at BG's helm eventually. Maybe I'll get it soon.

What about Miami? Any change there?
At least a dozen non-MAC head coaches have been fired. There will be a scramble among the bigger teams to sign talented coaches before anyone else does, so I wouldn't be surprised to see Gill, Hoke, Cubit, and Jones all leave for better paying jobs. Add the fact that Amstutz and Genyk are definitely out, while Montgomery, Martin, and Brandon might be on the way out as well and you've got a recipe for complete chaos this offseason, and the conference takes a significant step back next year as a result.
You can leave Martin out of this discussion for now. The AD has already announced that the department is 100% Martin and the football program. And like other MAC schools, its not economical to fire him when his contract is up in 2010 anyways.

Might as well be. Is Martin on the hot seat?

Frank is not having a good year by any means but keep in mind the guy did make a MACC in 2006, something even Jim Grobe was not able to do for Ohio.

Its kind of like the situation at Kent State. Both schools are getting talent under Martin and Solich like they've never done before but they aren't winning. With a few pieces the potential is there for 8-4 type teams.

I would be surprised to see more than two of the four you listed moving on. First of all, I'm going to assume that those coaches would only leave their schools for BCS opportunities or their equivalent (i.e. if the jobs at someplace like Utah or Boise State came open).

I can only see about four or five openings or likely openings that might fit that bill (Washington, Syracuse, Virginia (if Groh is fired), Louisville (if Kragthrope is fired), Cincinnati (if Kelly goes to Tenn.). As you can see at least three of those five are highly speculative at this point. Obviously, there could be some sliding around depending on what happens with NFL jobs, retirements, etc., etc.

If BG wins against Toledo next week and goes to a bowl I can't see any momentum for firing Brandon. The guy gives the falcon program stability and he did record a top 25 victory.

Also, another thing to consider with the East not very strong right now and a slim margin seperating the teams it really gives everyone hope.

Kelly would be smart to make a hop to Tennessee. He's taken the Cincinnati program to a BCS game in a down year for the Big East. That program is never going to attract the talent or resources to build a top 10 program. Utah and TCU have football budgets twice as big as UC's.
Three coaching spots are open in the MWC, with the coaches of SDSU, Wyoming, and New Mexico being fired. That's why I think you could see more MAC coaches making the jump.
