Have you guys seen this video of Melick and Scarbo talking about the Cousins debacle? They also take stabs at the foorball program at the end.

The video is on al.com.
Yeah, cause everybody knows that if you don't sign your class in the early signing period then you can't sign a class at all.

Melick and Scarbo are idiots.
Next time Scarbo tries to jump on the UAB bandwagon, we need to kick him off. Then use the bandwagon to run over Mellick.
Just trying to stir things up. Nobody should ever get too worked up over the things they have to say.
There's another thread on this but here's my take:

Gotta love the line:

"UAB Basketball could end up like UAB football which is 'are they still playing?' UAB Football? What is that?"

Whether we like it or not UAB has got to learn how to work with the media (ask John McCain how to win when the media treats you like a loser) and for the average person on the street it looks like UAB has once again dropped the ball.

Personally I don't care if Cousins ever shows up. Basketball is a team sport and anyone can have a season ending injury and with these one and done kids all we've done is set ourselves up for a fall. I like the way another poster put it when he said "Less Cousins, more PDIII". Paul Delaney is a real UAB man and his actions have shown it. Cousins has yet to do anything other than get an early start on how to be an obnoxious NBA player who lets other people around him make his decisions. Cousins has learned his first lesson and that is that management doesn't always give in no matter how good you are.

However the way this thing has played out has given UAB another black eye. Davis and the administration did not get on the same page until this week. If they had then Davis and Cousins would have been publicly stating that Cousins would not be signing until the Spring. Mike Davis has been using Cousins and this signing class as a way to buy time and make up for what so far has been a mediocre stay at UAB. (This year will hopefully have been worth the wait). Now that the time has come to put up or shut up UAB has been forced to go crawling back to the corner with little to show for all the hype. Once again UAB has been forced to play the 'ol "just give us time and we'll have a great program" routine. Sorry guys but the media along with 99.5% of the rest of this town have had enough and are now calling UAB Athletics what it is - The Great Pretender. It is up to UAB to begin to show some progress (winning two games on Saturday would be great) or we can expect little from the media other than comments about how irrelevant the program has become.

Another line from today's Birmingham News comes from John Archibald in his column on the new Red paint job at 5 points -

"Its as red as a fall Saturday in Tuscaloosa, and that in itself is another slap in the face to UAB. Wasn't it bad enough that Blazer fans had to accept Neil Callaway?"

If UAB can't start showing progress that the community can clearly see then when it comes to jokes in this town you can rest assured that the punch line will most likely be UAB Athletics.

Could not agree more.
I read the column, but I am not sure I understand. I was near 5 points last friday and saw they were repaving 11th ave and 20th. Did they paint it all red? Or was it just the circle?

I walked by there on the way to the gym today. Just the circle and some of the brick on the sidewalk are red. The rest is the standard black asphalt.

They painted it to look like it did a long time ago. The color is the least of Bham's problems at this point.

+1
Well, I guess we'll have to sneak out there late one Sunday night and paint the damn thing green and gold.

Screw'em.
I live out of town now so I am not privy to a lot of the drama going on in the Ham these days.
That being said, will someone please tell me why Cousins has not signed...? The press says the Mackin and Garrison are at fault and everyone on Blazertalk says that's not the case. What's the deal...just gimme the straighttalk....
Short answer? Who knows?

They could have given him that letter but it sets a really bad precedent and increases the risk of someone hiring Davis away based on his having Cousins in his pocket. Add in that we don't know for sure who is in the kid's ear or what they're telling him. There is speculation that his HS coach is trying to tag along with Cousins as his meal ticket to an NCAA job.

Everything I hear remains that he'll play here and that Davis will be here to coach him. Until something different comes out with facts to back it up that is what I expect to see.

I thought the same exact thing when I walked around 5 points the other day! Was having lunch with a friend and I said to them they needed to have painted the street GREEN and gold, not this God awful CRIMSON!! 03-puke

Cousins has this tremendous fear that if Davis should leave, the paper he was suppose to sign by last Wednesday will bind him to UAB. He chooses another option which is that he waits until next summer and if, by June, Davis is not gone then he can be assured that Davis will be there in the fall of 2009. He can then sign the papers in the middle of next summer, play in the 2009-2010 season and then leave for NBA. He does not have to sign during the spring signing period, he can just sign anytime next summer.

This may be why Mackin and Garrison refused to do anything because Cousins does have this option which virtually gives he exactly the rights he wants.
Thanks for the straighttalk. I pray we sign him....and keep Davis
Best case scenario, we keep Davis and get Cousins.
Worst case scenario, we lose Davis annd don't get Cousins.
Something WILL happen that encompasses some aspect of one of those two scenarios.

OK, this world class prognosticator is going back to bed. Out.
