These two guys are irrelevant. Neither one of them has done any investigative work on this story. I guess all they know is what is written in the bham news.....and we all know that the news doesn't do any investigation for themselves, they just run AP stories.

thanks for the link, but I'm not gonna use it.
I've seen/read enough UAB hit pieces in my lifetime.
Remember this the next time Scarbinsky writes his one positive driving-the-UAB-bandwagon column for the year and some of our brothers and sisters think the bammer has changed his stripes.
Gotta love the line:

"UAB Basketball could end up like UAB football which is 'are they still playing?' UAB Football? What is that?"

Whether we like it or not UAB has got to learn how to work with the media (ask John McCain how to win when the media treats you like a loser) and for the average person on the street it looks like UAB has once again dropped the ball.

Personally I don't care if Cousins ever shows up. Basketball is a team sport and anyone can have a season ending injury and with these one and done kids all we've done is set ourselves up for a fall. I like the way another poster put it when he said "Less Cousins, more PDIII". Paul Delaney is a real UAB man and his actions have shown it. Cousins has yet to do anything other than get an early start on how to be an obnoxious NBA player who lets other people around him make his decisions. Cousins has learned his first lesson and that is that management doesn't always give in no matter how good you are.

However the way this thing has played out has given UAB another black eye. Davis and the administration did not get on the same page until this week. If they had then Davis and Cousins would have been publicly stating that Cousins would not be signing until the Spring. Mike Davis has been using Cousins and this signing class as a way to buy time and make up for what so far has been a mediocre stay at UAB. (This year will hopefully have been worth the wait). Now that the time has come to put up or shut up UAB has been forced to go crawling back to the corner with little to show for all the hype. Once again UAB has been forced to play the 'ol "just give us time and we'll have a great program" routine. Sorry guys but the media along with 99.5% of the rest of this town have had enough and are now calling UAB Athletics what it is - The Great Pretender. It is up to UAB to begin to show some progress (winning two games on Saturday would be great) or we can expect little from the media other than comments about how irrelevant the program has become.

Another line from today's Birmingham News comes from John Archibald in his column on the new Red paint job at 5 points -

"Its as red as a fall Saturday in Tuscaloosa, and that in itself is another slap in the face to UAB. Wasn't it bad enough that Blazer fans had to accept Neil Callaway?"

If UAB can't start showing progress that the community can clearly see then when it comes to jokes in this town you can rest assured that the punch line will most likely be UAB Athletics.
Davis, mediocre? Compared to what? Those comedy troupes that matriculate in Tuscaloosa and Lee County?
I believe the Cousins' "demand" concerning the LOI was a very last minute development and caught everyone at UAB off guard. Including Coach Davis.
Just WIN and everything else will take care of itself.
If Cousins is truely a Mike Davis fan he will definitely sign w/ us in Spring. Simple as that.

If he doesn't sign, then he was never telling the truth to begin with.

The only "ugly" in this whole situation is his high school coach has another half a year to practice his propaganda and public persuasion.

I hope DC stays heathy this season, has a great year and signs in the Spring.

Go Blazers!
This makes me wish even more that they would up the age minimum for the NBA.
I never read the Birmingham News and I consider myself better off because of it. Why support any local media when they don't support the local university?
I don't know that these guys are saying a whole lot more than a lot of us are saying. Boil it down to this

1. The Calloway hiring has not produced results on the field yet and may be an abject failure. Furthermore we got screwed on that deal.

2. The Cousins deal makes us look like we're playing above our level. We're not ready for prime time. Witness our own threads about the general screwup that is our SID office and fundraising. Frankly, the standards of our athletic departments performance off the court/field is mediocre at best.

3. Until we put butts in the seats, do we have a claim to be Birmingham's team. Because of our failure to do so we come across as whiners or God help us corporate welfare recipients.

Perhaps being away from the "All Bammer, All the time" media gives me a little different perspective, but to me we sound like some rapper posturing because he's being dissed. Perhaps we'd do well to adapt the old Smith-Barney commerical. "We get respect the old fashioned way-we earn it"

Feel free to let the flames begin

Very well said indeed.

BLOW GAZERS!!!
Melick would have turned it negative regardless of what we would have done. Had we written an agreement with Cousins stating that we would let him out if Davis leaves, he would have degraded us with the opinion that we have given Davis a bargaining tool to find another job and our program is so low that we have to sell our souls to sign a big time recruit.

Forgive me, but I don't give a rats behind about Melicks opinion of UAB sports. If he never wrote another article or did another bootleg video about UAB I would be so thankful!

03-lmfao That's funny enough for even them to use.
Even with the belief that there is no such thing as bad press, I say we don't let either of them in the building until Mayfield is eligible or Cousins has signed. (Unless they buy a ticket, but even then keep them off of press row.)
