Seriously...raise your hand if you think Dr. Z and the administration can actually keep this guy.
After tonight, HELL YEAH! Not that I don't like him, but waaaaaay too much a riverboat gambler for a BCS elite program.

NO REASON AT ALL to go for it on 4th down in the situation he did: leading 7-0, and having an AA punter in the fold. And we bitched about the intentional safety 01-wingedeagle
yea....that call was horrible for sure
Well, Nancy and the administration have already done a great job. He's on pace to make, what, around 1.6 million dollars and get an indoor practice facility. But if UC football wins the rest of their home games this year in football, then the financial windfall of going to the Big East, the exposure, and increased ticket and merchandising sales will give UC a ton of money to play with. A TON of money. UC is already going to get double the money from the Big East because of the monster boost in the television packages and attendance.

I am with you, stupid call. About Kelly being too much of a riverboat gambler for a elite program, I disagree. College Football, in general, tends to reward aggressiveness, you have to take chances sometimes. They don't always work, but I prefer coaches that push the envelope, the Pete Caroll's, Mike Leaches and Urban Meyers of the world to people like Jim Tressel

One of the ballsier coaching moves of the past decade or so.
He had me flipping out in the first. But he's quickly creating a name for UC football.
I hope Mike Thomas is right now thinking about a way to keep BK...or at least sweeten the deal so if he does go we get more out of it. I think the UC admin and fans need to step up and say "We will invest "X" amount in you if you will invest in us."
I think that first year 2 million dollar buyout is looking smarter and smarter.

Field position was a HUUUUGE difference from the BK example.

I like BK, but I'm not going to agree with every one of his decisions.
There are risky decisions and there are stupid decisions. Mind you, I'm not the one getting the coach's salary, but those were stupid decisions and he is making them on national TV.

Unfortunately, for programs like UT 2Mil can come out of their change purse. One of their Bobby Lowder-like boosters will gladly pay it out of their own pockets for the right coach.

I kind of agree with you. The wins keep coming so the majority just kind of overlook it. I am hoping as BK grows as a coach in a high level Div.1 school that he would somewhat reign that in a tad. It is getting to the point now IMO that it is becoming predictable and almost to the point of ego. Football really is a simple game, just execute. I am not saying don't take chances but the early 4th and 1 - that IMO- is just boneheaded coaching. Things like that sooner or later are going to bite him and the entire team in the butt.

I'll say one thing in BK's defense: there was certainly enough time left in the game for UC to regain momentum.
Should we start talking about who could replace BK?

And consider how demoralizing a blow it would have been. I didn't mind him going on 4th and 1 so much, except for how he did it. I don't remember QB sneaks working well for us, but then I see our running backs gaining short yardage often or the capability for the QB to pick up a couple when we spread the field. I'm a BK whore though, not his best call.
The reason I think having a buyout that high isn't to keep Kelly. It is to make sure you get a leg up in the next phase of your program. 2 million dollars goes a long way in our athletic department.
I still think that Kelly will wait to see if ND will open up in 2-3 years or go to the NFL. I'm confident that colleges on his wish list: Michigan St., Ohio St.,Michigan and Boston College will not have openings for quite a while.

Tennessee, Clemson, Auburn are all jobs where expectations are you win at least nine games every year.
I seriously doubt Michigan St, Ohio St, or Michigan are on his wishlist. I know Big10 fans struggle to understand that, but he has no ties to Ohio St at all, and sure he coached in Michigan but that's the only tie he has to that area.
