Nothing official, but if it's gone this far, it's likely true. I just hope he finishes out the season, and the team plays with high emotion. He deserves to go out on as high a note as possbile.
10:00 am news conference scheduled -- looks like Amstutz will finish out the year.

Potts, I find celebrating the end of a man's dedicated career to his alma mater tasteless. But by all means, pile on.
I will miss Tom.

He was always very gracious and decent and just gave me a nice interview for another feature that I was working on.

I am always sorry to see a man lose his job and Tom was one of the good guys. I know it's a bottom-line business so changes likely had to be made. Just wish things would have worked out differently for him.

But he had a good run and will leave with many good memories. Hopefully the Toledo faithful will remember the positives during his tenure.

+1 Amstutz was a class act and like Stan before him was as loyal to his old school as one could get. I really hate to see two of my peers who gave so much as students, athletes and coaches lose their jobs. Nature of the beast I guess, and both had some good times. I wish Tom Amstutz the best- sad to think that there are Rocket fans who might be gleeful about the sad turn of events. Wanting a change is one thing but celbrating a former Rocket losing his job is a low blow.

Personally, I don't care.

He has taken the program from one of the best in the MAC and known nationally, to the laughing stock of the conference and no one knows who we are anymore. Teams used to FEAR coming into the Glassbowl, thats not the case anymore.
His lack of discipline with his players and distance he has taken from everyone won't be missed. His lack of emotion on the sidelines is sickening. The culture of losing has taken over this program, its time for a change.
How many other MAC coaches have taken their team to four bowl games in the past eight years? None? I thought so. We live in a throw-away society today. It probably was time for Amstutz to go, but I still hate to see it. I wish him nothing but the best. He has been good for the MAC.

+100 Toledo Tom is a Rocket treasure. I agree, it's probably time for him go. But I have great respect for the man, his down cycle notwithstanding. No doubt rising teams like CMU made significant inroads in recruiting to compete with the Rockets.

UTPotts, aka "Mr. Potter" is no doubt in the minority of Toledo and MAC fans who salute Toledo Tom and hopes "It's A Wonderful [Rest of His] Life".
I think that Toledo fans may not want what they get after Amstutz is gone. The Toledo program is kind of like where Marshall's was when Pruett left and since then they've never been able to recover.

that comparison is way off. to my knowledge Stutz isn't resigning to avoid the downfall of being busted for cheating by the NCAA. Huge factor to Marsha's going downhill.

Yeah, Toledo should be fine. Decent facilities and a pretty strong recruiting base -- certainly stronger than just about anyone else in the MAC. They also look to have some decent young talent there. Be interesting to see which way they go with the hire though.
I feel the same way about this as I did about Stan -- I liked both of them very much, but just think it's time to go in a different direction. Both have done a lot for UT.

There aren't that many Division 1 players coming out of Toledo. Not exactly sure what you are talking about here?

The MAC is a collection of strong mid major football programs who could on any given day beat a BCS team. This is not the WAC where Boise and Fresno are light years ahead of most of the competition.

There is nothing at this point the makes success at Toledo automatic.

You are very much mistaken, imo.

And what is this magic quality? The new Toledo mascot?

A different day and age is dawning in the MAC. In the manner that basketball has for years in the MAC witnessed teams beating up on each other because of competitiveness you are starting to see it in football where even the worse schools pull off BCS upsets.

Look also how Central was down close to 10 years after being a long time MAC power. Things could be rocky for a long time in Toledo who knows. Program has spiraled downward for years now. Mass exodus of players when Amstutz moves on.

As for Miami I think they are on their way to becoming a Duke/Northwestern type bottom feeder for the conference.

So when is EMU having a press conference for Genyk....
I definitely agree, it is time for him to go. Toledo needs to return to its former self. The conference is stronger and better when they do well. If NIU had three straight losing seasons i would not be happy with our coaches either.

Glad we could help out the Toledo faithful with a 38-7 win. 05-stirthepot
